Step 1: What is the industry – need to be clear about the industry in which the
firm competes (and think about the boundaries of the industry).
Step 2: General Environment Analysis – looking for broad trends and trying to
identify their potential impact.
Step 3: The Industry Environment – completed using the Five-Forces Model.

Step 4: Competitor Analysis – who are our direct and indirect competitors?
Strategic groups?

Step 5: Statement of Opportunities and Threats – a summation of steps 1-4,
that identifies the main external issues for the firm.

Step 6: Identifying tangible and Intangible resources of the firm.
