Mr Alex Fraster lived his whole life in the small town in the north of Englang. He never left
the house where he was born, never married, never went on holiday and had no friends.
He worked in a local fctory for over forty years but even the people who had worked with him for
years knew very little about him. He wore the same old clothes year in year out, and although his
shopped regularly at the local store he bought only the most basic foodstuffs, never changed his
purchases from one week to the next.
So when he died last month, neighbors and local people were astonished to learn that Mr Frases

He had no money in the bank or invested anywhere but in the various drawers, cupboards and
boxes in his house there were hundreds and thousands of banknotes and coins. It took the police

“ We had absolutely no idea that he had so much money” one of his neighbor said. “ In fact, we
used to feel sorry for him, we thought he was a poor old man who was unable to afford anything
better for himself!.”

Camping
Camping is an activity in which people live tempratily in the outdoors. Campers participate
in fishing, hunting, swimming, plant study, wildlife watching, and nature photography. It
provides physical benefits when it involves hiking to, from and around a campsite, and many
people believe that camping makes youngsters feel more confident.
People throughout the world enjoy hiking wildness campsites. This activity is called
backpacking because it involves carrying such essential camping gear as a tent, food, clothing,
and sleeping bag on the back in a bagcalled a backpack. Backpacking is best suited for those
who are in good physical condition as it may require walking several miles.
The key to any enjoyable camping trip is planning. A decision on where to camp depends on
personal preference, but plannng the trip before leaving help campers avoid preventable
accidents. Many situations- bad weather, injury, or simply a crowded campsite- are less
alarming if campers are preparedd.

The Shawl.
This story happened in Pladenphia towards the end of the nineteenth century. One winter
evening Dr. S. Weir Mitchel sat down in an armchair and stated reading a book, but after an
exshausting day at the surgery, he soon felt asleep. A short while later he woke up sudenly whe
heard a doorbell ringing. There was a girl standing on the doorstep. It was cold and snow was
falling, but she was wearing only a thin shawl around her shoulders and she was shivering. “ My
mother is very ill”, she said. “ Please come.”
Walking through the dark and snowy streets was not easy, but eventually they came to an old
apartment bulding and the girl led the doctor up to a room on the floor. There was a woman lying
on the bed and the doctor recongnized her as a former servant of his. After examining her, he took
out his notepad and looked around for the girld. “Where’s your daughter??” he asked the woman.
“I need her to go for some medicine”
“ My daughter?” She said in surprise. “ My daughter died a month ago.” “ But that’s impssible,”
said the doctor. “ She came to fetch me. I saw her. She was wearing a shawl.”
“ My daughter’s shoes and her shawl are in there,” said the woman, pointing to a small cupboard.

on the shelf. It was fold and dry. It clearly had not been worn that night.
