ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
First, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who supported me during my
practical training course at Quynh Phuong English Center. I would like to specially thank
to the Director Board of Quynh Phuong English Center for the invaluable knowledge to
complete my training and for my work to come.
Second, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ms Doan Thi Ly who
instructed and advised me throughout my practical training. I also thank her for working
with me during my internship with great patience and constant encouragement. I
appreciate the time spent to prepare materials and helpful feedback on the paper along
with conscientious guidance and remarks in my work.
I also thank the staff working at Quynh Phuong English Center for their
enthusiastic and unconditional help in my fulfillment of this practical training course.
Finally, I am thankful to the members of my class (ANH-B2-K13) who always
supported me whenever I needed it. My classes helped to keep a high morale and
motivation which are important qualities for successful training at Hue University of
Foreign Languages.

I. GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Full name: PHAN THI THU THUY
2. Class: Anh B2 — K13
3. School: Hue University of Foreign Languages
4. Place of the practical training: Quynh Phuong English Center
Founded on May 2011, Quynh Phuong Language Center has more than 6 years of
experience of training English speaking and listening skills for many generations of
students.
- About 80% of Quynh Phuong's students scored over 8.0 in English, and 5 of them

won the Internet English exam.
- Roughly 90% of Quynh Phuong students get an overall score of 9.0 or above.
- About 90% of Quynh Phuong students achieve a total score of 9.0 or above.
Quynh Phuong English Center has 01 national award, 06 provincial prizes and 15 city
prizes for English subjects in the academic year 2013-2014. 02 students won National Gold
Medal, 6 provincial awards and many city and school awards.
- The provincial student competition team has 7 Quynh Phuong students accounting
for 30% of the total provincial candidates of the whole city.
- There are 15 students taking Cambridge exams with scores of 14/15 and 15/15.
There are 25 students achieving Cambridge certificate, of which B1 certificate has 3
people, KET certificate has 2 people.
In the 2015-2016 school year:
40 students achieved Cambridge certificates
25 students won the provincial prize
2 students won national awards
In the 2016-2017 school year, there were 22 students reaching the honor level, 01
students won the first prize at the provincial speech contest ...
Quynh Phuong's lectures are aimed at everyone, divided into four main target
groups:

Students from 4 to 6 years old with the Children Program,
Students ages 7-12 with the Young Learner Program,
Students from 13 to 18 years old with the Young English Program.

The purpose of learning English through the English Communication Program
includes basic communication, studying abroad, moving abroad, and/or working in
English-speaking countries around the world.


The goal of Quynh Phuong Foreign Language Center is to not only practice

listening, speaking, reading and writing English skills in accordance with modern teaching
and learning methods, meeting the integration needs, but also to gain practical skills.
Teamwork, quick reflexes, and confident communication. In addition, students at Quynh
Phuong Foreign Language Center are prepared with the basic knowledge to achieve high
scores in English as well as tests in specialized schools or exams of D, A1 grade.
The faculty are comprised of teachers who have teaching experience, with either a
master's degree or bachelor’s degree in English and are always passionate about their
careers. Some teachers have received a Master's degree abroad, offering a unique teaching
style to apply to students. In addition, Quynh Phuong Foreign Language Center also has a
professional advisory council consisting of experienced teachers at the Faculty of Foreign
Languages of Hue University, at the specialized school and Le Quy Don Quang Tri High
School, Hue National School.
Learning English here, students will never be bored with learning because the
classroom is fully equipped with audio-visual equipment to support teaching and learning.
Classrooms are decorated in a friendly and lively manner; always bright and cool in the
summer and warm in the winter. Students' parents will never feel worried because they
have supportive learning services such as: picking up students, snacks before and after
school.
In addition to lectures for students, Quynh Phuong Foreign Language Center also
organizes many useful extracurricular activities with topics such as "Children are always
right", the "Happy Sunday" club, or the talented search contest called "Idol of Quynh
Phuong children".
Social activities of Quynh Phuong Language Center include Pink Love Shelter,
Vietnam Book Day, and volunteer days in the mountains of Huong Hoa ... All events have
created Quynh Phuong's unique identity where foreign language enthusiasts are
championed.
Functions and Duties of Quynh Phuong English Center:
We are proud to be a center with continuous development activities over the past 8
years. This is the first English center of Quang Tri province with candidates taking the
Cambridge exam and achieving excellent results, making high marks with international

examiners.


As the first local center to apply an effective student centered method of learning
English: learning English does not need to be through Vietnamese. The center has students
who have won national, provincial, and city awards in recent years.
The first center organized a playground: Ring the golden bell, communicate in
English
The first center serves as a bridge to study abroad for students.
The center is a passionate heart for the dream of mastering the pinnacle of learning
foreign languages!
Private program of Quynh Phuong Foreign Language Center:
* The kids program is specially designed for children from 4 to 6 years old. This is a
golden time for children to get exposed to the new language and help them become familiar
with the native English language, through the process of "Learning, playing and learning".
The curriculum is Super Tots 1 to Super Tots 3.
* The English for Young Learners Program (YLE) for children from 7 to 12 years
old, equivalent to the YLE (Starters; Movers; Flyers) levels of Cambridge English. In order
to create opportunities for children to access English with the native English language,
inspire them to learn and confidently apply English to life.
* Young English is a program designed exclusively for students from 13 to 18 years
of age, including 2 levels of KET, PET equivalent to levels A2, B1 of the European
Standard Language Reference Framework (CEFR).
* English Communication Program is based on a curriculum for adult students. It is
specially designed to help students use English with everyday conversation skills, get the
essential skills for career opportunities and advancement.
* The IELTS preparation program is specially designed for high school students,
college students who want to use English for further study, studying at international
universities or for those who plan to live and work in English-speaking countries around the
world.

2. Finished works
After a nearly three month training course, I achieve the following results:
First, I have gained valuable experiences of learning through practical
group work. This is a significant experience that gives me a lot of opportunities to finish
well at my current position teaching English as well as Vietnamese to foreigners,
researching language and culture, knowing how to work effectively and have enjoyable
discussions with other trainees to exchange opinions and find shared conclusions.
Second, my translation and interpreter skills have improved. I have the ability to
analyze texts in different contexts like translating an English text into Vietnamese, or
vice versa.
In addition, I feel more confident when starting a conversation. Prior to my
studies, I felt insecure when I spoke English because I felt I do not know enough to

have others understand me. Now I can confidently converse with English speakers.
The opportunity to practice at an English teaching center has helped me gain more
knowledge and experiences in the field to the point I can be successful teaching this
subject. In short, the training courses have provided me many different skills, practical
experience, especially the opportunity to work directly with many people in a professional
and rigorous environment.
3. Unfinished works
In period of training, there were some works which I didn't complete well.
Sometimes I have not finished the job as I hope. The reasons were that I have not
mastered the skills of direct communication with foreigners, had not enough experiences
in translating and interpreting. For example, despite investing a lot of time to prepare but
my introduction to Quynh Phuong English Center, I still made some mistakes.
4. Experience lessons
After two month of training practically at Quynh Phuong English Center, I have
learned many beneficial and interesting experiences. I have a better grasp of the kind of
work a translator/interpreter and a foreign-relation employee of Quynh Phuong Center. At
university, I learned basic English language skills, but most of them were only based on
the knowledge of language structures and the theories in books. When coming to Quynh
Phuong Foreign Language Center, I learned through good opportunities to widen my
knowledge as well as learn many things which I had never known before from real life
experiences, especially from my supervisor – Ms Ly.


Helping with classroom management during lessons is the most important role of a
teaching assistant. When the teacher is busy working with a student, the assistant should
answer questions other students have, assist students with their work, and give feedback or
encouragement when needed. While the teacher is giving instructions or lecturing, I can
help maintain order by breaking up student conversations and minimizing distractions. I
can also help when students form groups or move desks in between activities to shorten
the amount of time these things take and thus ensure that students have more time to

practice English. With a teaching assistant in the classroom, the primary instructor will not
have to disrupt the flow of the lesson by trying to be in two places at once.
As for translation, it's inevitable when we come across words, phrases, concepts ...
that we have never met, or even dictionaries not included in the translation process. In that
case, we can translate correctly through the study of words and concepts. These help me to
gain new knowledge and new formulas during the translation process. We can also use
Google or Wikipedia as useful tools.
Finally, you need to be kind to children to be a good teaching assistant. A great
teaching assistant that understands how children learn and develop. They know that every
child is different and take a child-centered approach. This means they can adapt their style
to students. As well as being flexible in the sense that they’re able to offer a different
approach to each child, they also need to adapt to the ebb and flow of a teacher’s lesson.
Whilst the best-laid plans of a lesson can go right, they can sometimes go awry. As such a
great teaching assistant will be able to adapt to how the teacher provides the lesson. One
minute they will be attending to a child individually, the next they will be working in a
group. So being able to adapt is really important.
5. Self-evaluation
a. The strengths
In my practical training course, I realized that I had several strengths as follows:
I think that my biggest strength is my flexibility and willingness to always learn and
try new things. I know my content well and how it connects to different aspects of life and
other subjects. I like to ask students how they got their answer. I will model a couple
examples then I begin to have students walk me through examples.
I always tried my best to complete all tasks that the supervisor required. I listened to
my supervisor thoroughly and made numerous corrections in my paper with my
supervisor’s help.


In addition, I had a good awareness and attitude towards my practice, always looked
for necessary information for my work.

Besides, I actively effectuated all regulations issued by Quynh Phuong Foreign
Language Center and worked quite effectively.
Moreover, I was enthusiastic and active in group work and volunteer activities of the
center. I know how to accept the weak points and make effort to overcome them.
Furthermore, I was self - confident and friendly with members in group at Quynh
Phuong English Center.
And last but not least, I can completely make contact and talk with foreigners,
translating better a document in English to Vietnamese, or vice versa.
b. The weaknesses
Besides some above strong aspects, I also have some difficulties during the practical
training course.
First of all, I usually have too many things going on at the same time and struggle to
juggle them all. It is something that I am actively working on, however, I am making some
progress.
Secondly, it is my craftiness, or lack thereof. I find other ways for my students to
explore and learn, but crafts are not my forte.
Thirdly, language knowledge in both source and target language was not quite good
so that I could not produce a perfect translation. I can only overcome this by reading a lot
of materials in both English and Vietnamese, and practice translating more.
Finally, lack of practical experience in the job sometimes made me difficult to handle
the assigned works. I found that I have to create more opportunities to practice what I have
learned at university so that I can improve my current ability. The most significant thing is
that I have always tried my best to overcome and improve my communication skills as
well as translating and interpreting skills.

Nắm vững chức năng, vai trò, nhiệm vụ và phương thức hoạt động của trung tâm
Anh ngữ Quỳnh Phương.
Mở rộng kiến thức Lịch sử, Văn hóa Việt Nam và thế giới qua các tài liệu đọc và
dịch.
Nâng cao khả năng dịch thuật.
Nắm bắt được những công việc cần làm. Có tính tự giác và chính xác cao trong
công việc.
Làm quen tốt với áp lực công việc thực tế. Vận dụng óc sáng tạo trong công việc.
Sinh viên tích cực trong các hoạt động ngoại khóa của trung tâm.
Tham gia giảng dạy và trợ giảng đúng thời gian theo sự phân công của trung tâm.
Mặc dù thời gian sinh viên Phan Thị Thu Thủy thực tập tại trung tâm không quá
dài, nhưng chúng tôi đã luôn tạo mọi điều kiện tốt nhất cho sinh viên tham gia thực tập.
Hy vọng, sinh viên Phan Thị Thu Thủy sẽ vận dụng những kiến thức thực tế này vào công
việc sau khi tốt nghiệp một cách hiệu quả.
