I. INTRODUCTION
1. The reason to choose the theme
English is an extremely important tool in modern social life. Moreover,
it is also a tool to facilitate integration with the international and regional
community. It helps us to access international information about science and
technology, cultural, medical, industrial and agricultural education which is
changing every hour. It also helps us to access advanced cultures as well as
important international events. Therefore, studying English as a foreign
language is an indispensable basic culture in the educational program.
Common. Currently studying English asks students to develop all 4 skills of
listening - speaking - reading - writing. One of the factors for learning skills
well, especially reading skills, is vocabulary. Vocabulary is the most important
part in all languages. So, to learn a language, speak a language, use
a language, everyone must learn vocabularies.
Learning English vocabulary in a traditional way does not make you
feel happy while studying. As soon as you look at the words, the students are
tired and depressed. Long vocabulary. They often have a feeling of
remembering a lot of words in a short time, especially before the test. But the
words they just learned are only "temporary" in the brain for a short time.
then will forget immediately. This not only affects the academic results but
also discourages many students, even hating English.
Therefore, building a systematic image, showing the relationship
between knowledge will bring many advantages in terms of remembering,
developing awareness, thinking, imagination and ability. High creativity is
important. Mind map is known as the method of clever vocabularies learning
mentioned in the book "I'm good, you too". It is an interesting way to learn
English vocabularies, which helps students learn them quickly and remember
them for a long time.
From the fact that, I have researched and applied the theme “Applying
Mindmap to teaching and learning English vocabularies in reading lessons - grade 10”
with the purpose of improving the effectiveness of learning vocabularies in
English reading skills for grade 10 students in highschool. This is the main
reason that I choose this theme.
2. The purpose of choosing the theme
English is one of the relatively difficult subjects for students in
getting new knowledge, understanding and master content of the reading text.
They also find it difficult to memorize the vocabulary in the form of notes.
Therfore, many students are less interested and passive during the class.
There are many teaching methods performed annually to improve
the quality of learning English for students but perhaps, the active teaching
method by using Mindmap makes me interested most. In lesson, all students

participate in activities motivated students’ thought, curiosity and ability to
explore and broaden their vocabularies. Because "Do not teach children what
they must think, but teach them how to think" (Margaret Mead).Teachers
should actively take initiative in using this teaching method to make English
gradually became a close friend of every student, first of all the vocabulary
that they learned and memorized daily.
3. Object of the research
- Students from class 10 A, D, school year: 2018 - 2019
4. Methods of the reseach
- Get experience from colleagues through their teaching.
- Search information to the website, articles or reference books.
- Using methods of observing, evaluating, comparing and synthesizing the
situation and learning results of students after the periods using mind maps.

II. CONTENTS
1. Theotical bases
“Mind mapping is a highly effective way of getting information in
and out of your brain. Mind mapping is a creative and logical means of notetaking and note-making that literally "maps out" your ideas.Mind map for you
"a total view about an issue or a large field. ” according to Tony's research
Buzan and Barry Buzan are written in "The Mind Map Book" (Vietnamese
translation version - Le Huy Lam) nowadays, we often record information in
the passive way (Way to use sentences or narratives, enumeration, the outline
of the idea is to beat the mansion with numbers or patterns.)
The vocabularies have on relationship with each other. Using mind
maps, students will find a relationship between them. Mind map supports
teaching new words, reviewing learned words, usinging it easily and saving
time. In addition, when applying the technique of teaching English vocabulary
with mind map, students can not only show their creativity, flexibility and
imagination but also memorize vocabulary faster and learn more new words
at the same time.

2. Practical bases
a. Toward teacher:
According to the traditional method, the teacher instructs the students
to draw a 3-column board, and then write the new word in the first column,
the meaning of each word in the last column and the middle column is
wordform, as well as pronunciation of words. But teaching vocabulary on
word tables or similar forms often makes students bored because they can not
only concentrate a wordboard without images and color.
b. Toward students:
Many students always learn only the vocabularies and meaning of the
words, or learn to cope in the old lesson tests. It is the learning method that is
not used because without regular and continuous vocabulary consolidation,
they will quickly forget and feel discouraged in memorizing wods.
3. Solution
* Preparation:
a. Toward students:
- Students are expected to prepare necessary equipments for drawing
mindmap (A4, A3 or take use the back of pictures, photos, Tet calendar;
pencil, color pen, ruler guys, ...). They also can draw ideas at home before
class.
b. Toward teacher:
- Prepare lesson content so that it is most logical.

- Requires students to prepare the necessary equipment for class with mind
map (A4, A3 or take use the back of pictures, photos, Tet calendar; pencils,
crayons, rulers, ...).
- Prepare some sample mindmaps and ask students if they understand
anything from those mindmaps.
* Measures to create a Mindmap successfully.
- Think of the general main topic and write that down in the center of the
page.
- Figure out sub-topics of your main concept and draw branches to them from
the center, beginning to look like a spider web.
- Make sure to use very short phrases or even single words
- Add images to invoke thought or get the message across better
- Try to think of at least two main points for each sub-theme you created and
create branches out to those.

Activity 2: Students or representatives of student groups to report and explain
about the mindmap that my group has set up.
Activity 3: Students discuss, modify and edit to complete the information in
the mindmap. Teacher will be a mentor, a referee to help students complete
it, thereby leading to lesson knowledge.
Activity 4: Teacher give consolidation the knowledge in a mindmap that
teacher has prepared or that the whole class participated in complete editing,
ask students to present and explain that knowledge.
b. Applying mindmap to teaching anh leaning vocabularies some
reading periods .
I have designed some mindmap related to vocabulary in the "Lead-in"
section, "Warm-up" or "Consolidation" in some reading lessons that I find
most relevant. I have designed them based on the content of English class 10
textbooks by using iMindmap, Edraw MindMap software. Here are some
teaching English vocabularies activities in Reading lesons that I have
completed effectivelyin my highschool.
Unit 3: PEOPLE’ BACKGROUND

By applying mindmaps to teaching vocabularies for students in Nga Son high
school, I have got some achievements as follows:
- During activities, students practice more in groupworks
- Students are excited in learning English vocabularies. They can memorize
quickly and apply in different contexts.
- Students develop extra skills: draw a mindmap, logical thinking

III. CONCLUSION
Over the years teaching myself, I found that the application of
Mindmap in teaching and learning vocabularies " brought about very positive
results: students has made remarkable progress, they know and remember
more vocabularies. They are confident to report in front of the class. Besides,
other skills such as speaking, listening and writing are also improved. They
are really interested in learning the lessons.
These are the small experiences that I have picked up in the
classroom teaching English 11 in my school, of course I can not avoid certain
shortcomings. I hope I can build up ideas and learn more experiences of
colleagues to complete my theme.
I would like to thank.
