7.Differences between countries become less evident each year. Nowadays, all over the world
people share the same fashions, advertising, brands, eating habits and TV channels. Do the
advantages outweigh the disadvantages of this?
SAMPLE ANSWER – BAND 7.5 +
It is undoubtedly the case that the world today has become a global village. One of the effects of
this is that increasingly people in all corners of the world are exposed to similar services and
products and adopt similar habits. My view is that this is largely a beneficial process and in this
essay I will explain why.
The first point to make is that there are some downsides to this process of cultural globalization,
but these are relatively minor. The most significant of these disadvantages is that it can weaken
national culture and traditions. For example, if people watch films and television programmes
produced in the United States, sometimes they adopt aspects of the lifestyle of the American
characters they see on television. Typically, however, this only affects minor details such as
clothing and does not seriously threaten national identity.
When we turn to the other side of the argument, there are two major points to make in favour of
this process. The first of these is that the more we share habits, products and services, the better
we understand each other and this reduces prejudice against other nations. The other point relates

HUNGHANUENGLISH.COM – LUYỆN IELTS SĨ SỐ NHỎ -01632638755

to modernity. It is a sign of progress in a society that people no longer are restricted to brands and
advertisements from their own society but are able to access more international goods. If, for
example, there were unable to drink Coca Cola or wear Nike, then that would mean their society
was not part of the international community.
In conclusion, I understand the point of view of people who worry about cultural globalization
because it is a threat to national traditions. However, this is outweighed by its positive impact on
international understanding and the fact that it represents progress within a society.
8.When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is

pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this
opinion?
SAMPLE ANSWER – BAND 7.5 +
Nowadays, technological advances and their rapid and wide applications are having a significant
impact on a nation’s traditional skills and ways of life. Some argue that such impact is so
extraordinary that it would make conventional skills and life styles obsolete. However, I believe
they would continue to thrive by providing alternatives to modern ways of life, and innovative
ideas for modern technologies.
First of all, traditional skills and ways of life are becoming an alternative solution to the
problems caused by “mainstreamed” ways of life which are greatly influenced by modern
technologies. For instance, a cozy restaurant where traditional, home-brewed beer is served,
offers another experience to people who are bored with branded beers that have the same flavor
and come out of mass production with new technologies. It is in such a venue where traditional
skills are preserved, people become relaxed and educated. Providing diversity and thus enriching
modern ways of life, such traditional skills and ways of life would continue to have their place.
Furthermore, conventional skills provide innovative ideas to the development of modern
technologies. For example, sparkled by how the word “Love” is traditionally knitted into a
sweater by some ethnic minority women in some parts of Asia, some business managers from
textile industry have developed some production lines by applying the traditional skills to
Computer-Aided Designs (CAD). The products have boosted the companies’ sales which in turn
have increased their investment in preserving traditional skills for further developing their
technologies.
To conclude, traditional skills and life styles are increasingly becoming a useful alternative to the
homogeneity brought by global applications of modern technologies. However, the evolution of
technologies is a selection process, whereby some would become obsolete, but there is no doubt
that some would thrive when their roles are appreciated.

10.Some people think it is easier for adults to learn practical skills (such as computer skills)
by themselves while others believe it is better to learn with a teacher in classroom. Discuss

both sides and give your own opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER – BAND 7.0 +

No one can argue that education is a valuable asset for an individual in this competitive
employment world. It becomes a controversial discussion about whether a person should learn

HUNGHANUENGLISH.COM – LUYỆN IELTS SĨ SỐ NHỎ -01632638755

practical skills by himself or study with an instructor, which could provide an effective result.
Both views will be discussed below.
To begin with, some people who believe in self- study have several reasons. Firstly, since the
technology has become very easy to access, learners are able to explore a wide range of
information in various types of materials. There is no obstacle in the way of self-study anymore.
Secondly, after people have passed several years in education, most adults become more mature
and motivated on their studies and engage in self-learning by themselves. Apparently, many
students who study foreigner languages, study on their own through websites or join mutualsupport groups, in which case, no educators are involved at all.
On the other hand, some opponents argue that studying in schools or institutions with highqualified teachers and following an educational system help students to indulge into all aspects
quickly and gain a better result than self-study. This is because, most qualified teachers would
know what materials should apply in different student levels and know how to guide students to
achieve the best result effectively, which cannot find from self-study. Moreover, having a
teacher's guide ensures that a student will achieve a certificate or a degree, which is required in
targeted employment area.
To sum up, in my opinion, If a person is able to control himself to study on tract constantly and
intensively, self- study will be suit him the most, perhaps if a person wants to get a greater result,
coaching from teachers will be useful for him.

11.Some believe that it is good for a country's culture to import films and TV programmes,
while others think it is better for a country to have their own films and TV programmes.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

SAMPLE ANSWER – BAND 8.0
Films and TV game shows entertain our life, helping us relieve pressure from work and
study. They become a part which can not be separated from our life in this way.
Accordingly, some people think that buying foreign-made movies and TV programmes is
worth encouraging. However, others argue that it would be much better if a nation can

HUNGHANUENGLISH.COM – LUYỆN IELTS SĨ SỐ NHỎ -01632638755

produce its own movies or TV channels. In this essay, I will lend more details to the two
sides of this issue before arriving at my conclusion.
Spiritual values are often regarded as the first reason as to why some nations import and
broadcast foreign films and TV programmes. Making films is the way for each director to
introduce as well as widely spread images of their nation and people to international
watchers. To put it more simply, cinematic works convey messages about friendship, love
and life , all of which open a new horizon to viewers. Watchers, therefore, can broaden
cultural knowledge about neighbor countries through movies or TV channels. For film
importers, they themselves also reap a lot of benefits from this. They will learn film-making
techniques from leading entertainment companies to produce their first works.
However, the idea that nations should develop their own leisure industry rather than
depend on external factors is not quite groundless. What if domestic cinemas only project
movies imported from overseas because of the lack of domestic producers’ works? Ii is
easily predicted that watchers will find hard to stay immune from influences of external
culture. For example, young people tend to buy foreign goods if they are forced to watch
foreign films or game shows. In long run, there will be no room for local products in
customers’ mind.
In my opinion, each country should have their own entertainment channels because this
helps domestic producers to promote culture both locally and internationally. This will also
lead to long-term benefits in terms of tourism and economy.
