 PREAMBLE
1. Introduction the overview of thesis
The thesis "Building the cultural lifestyle of the cadets 
in Vietnam People's Army officer training schools today" is 
an independent research and creativity of the author, is done 
on the basis of standpoint of Marxism ­ Leninism and Ho Chi 
Minh’s   thoughts,   ways   of   Vietnam’s   Communist   Party   in 
lifestyle;    resolutions   of  the   Central  Military  Commission, 
Ministry of Defense, reports and survey results of the author 
in some military officer training schools.
The thesis gave out the concept of cultural lifestyles 
and cultural lifestyle of the cadets in Vietnam People's Army 
officer   training   schools   (VPA),   analyzing   the   factors   that 
regulates the construction of the cultural lifestyle of students 
in   the   officer   training   schools   of   VPA;   assessing   the 
achievements and limitations, causes and cover some issues 
raised need to be addressed in building cultural lifestyle of 
students;   then   proposing     requirements   and   some   basic 
solutions   in   building   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in   the 
officer training school of VPA now.
To   implement   the   research,   the   thesis   built 
structures   include:   the   introduction,   three   chapters   (6 
periods), conclusions, the list of scientific works published 
research results of the thesis, references and appendices.
2. Reasons for choosing thesis
During the renovation work carried out in accordance 
with   the   country’s   target   rich   people,   strong   country, 
democratic,   fair   and   civilized,   our   Party   has   identified 
economic development as the focus, the party is a key building, 
culture must be put on balance with economy, politics, society 


and human oriented building with personality, good lifestyle. 
However, the negative impact of the rise in the economy and 
the   socialist­oriented   market   opening   process,   international 
integration   have   made   cultural   social   environment   has 
expressed hybrid, unhealthy impacts to the human. Besides, the 
sabotage  of  the  reactionary,  hostile   forces,  through strategy 
"peaceful evolution" as well as lifestyle alienation of many 
cadres, Party members and the younger generation. In society, 
many   expressions   of   lifestyles   alien   to   the   moral,   national 
traditions appear and grow. In fact, the currency has dominated 
many relationships, including relationships traditionally always

appreciate and cannot buy with money. Many young people 
today are displaying irresponsibility, lack of ambition, ideal 
faint,   indifferent   to   community,   personal   selfishness,   not 
interested in political issues, turn back to the fine values   of 
traditional culture of the community. Resolution of the Ninth 
Central Committee of the Party session XI clearly showed: 
Compared   to   the   achievements   in   the   fields   of   politics, 
economy, defense, security, foreign policy, achievements in the 
field of culture is not similar; not enough to impact effectively 
in   building   human   and   healthy   cultural   environment.   The 
recession of political ideology, ethics and lifestyle within the 
Party and in society has a tendency to increase. That has put the 
request   in   developing   Vietnam’s   human   culture   lifestyle   is 
becoming more important and urgent.
Learners in Vietnam People's Army officer training 

schools who were selected tightly through military entrance 
examinations and are learning cultural lifestyle will help them 
acutely aware of the value of politics, culture and humanities, 
progress on the basis of Marxism ­ Leninism and Ho Chi 
Minh’s thoughts and the Communist Party of Vietnam, as the 
basis for the right choice of life’s value, improve the quality of 
learning   activities,   training   and   living,   working   and 
communication   behaviors,   attitudes,   relentless   drive   to 
perfection   personified;   while   struggling   with   the   wrong 
cognitive and behaviors in society nowadays. 
Recognizing this problem, the officer training schools 
of VPA has seriously confirmed and conducted operations 
efficiently   in   building   cultural   lifestyle   of   students, 
contributing to improving the overall quality of education and 
training. However, the awareness of a number of officials and 
staffs in building cultural lifestyle of students still incomplete, 
since   it   fails   to   promote   good   role,   responsibility   and 
exemplary participation. Some participants in the process of 
education and training are only interested in raising the level 
of   knowledge,   skills,   work,   not   give   due   attention   to   the 
cultivation   and   training   of   cultural   lifestyle.   Particularly, 
students also live pragmatic behavior, dishonest, unfair, or 
violating state law, military discipline and other social evils. 
The   task   of   building   the   revolutionary     People's   Army, 
regular, elite  and modern in steps requires officer training 
schools must constantly innovate strong work in education 
and training in order to build a team of officers does not only 
have the political stability, qualified extensive expertise but

also have the moral qualities of light, pattern and lifestyle 
culture. Later, they will be the core force in organizational 
leadership activities, management, command and educational 
officers and soldiers in the base unit in all respects, meet the 
requirements   of   the   military   construction   and   defense   the 
Vietnam’s socialist and republic.
From   the   above   reasons,   the   authors   chose 
problem  "Building  the  cultural lifestyle  of the  cadets  in 
Vietnam People's Army officer training schools today " to 
study the basic meaning and urgency.
3. Research purposes and tasks
3.1 . Research purposes
Base on clarifying some theoretical issues, practical 
construction of the cultural lifestyle of students in officer 
training   schools   of   Vietnam   People’s   Army,   which 
proposed   requirements   and   some   basic   solutions   built 
entrance cultural life of students in these schools now.
3.2 . Research tasks
Thesis clarify concepts, unique cultural lifestyle 
of students and the factors that regulates the construction 
of   the   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in   officer   training 
schools of Vietnam People’s Army .
Appreciating   correctly   the   achievements, 
limitations, clarifying cause and cover some issues raised 
in building cultural lifestyles of students in officer training 
schools of Vietnam People’s Army.
Proposing requirements and some basic solutions in 
building cultural lifestyle of students in the officer training 

school of VPA now.
4. Research’s object and scope
4.1. Research object
Building   the   cultural   lifestyle   of   the   cadets   in 
Vietnam People's Army officer training schools today 
4.2. Research scope
The   thesis   limited   research   topics   in   building 
cultural lifestyle of students eligible for officer training at 
division level, university level (also known as object of 
basic training, long­term division level).
The   theme   focused   on   the   construction   of   the 
cultural lifestyle of students in the scope of the Vietnam 
People's Army officer training schools. The scope of the 
survey,   respondents   in   some   military   officers   training 
schools in the North.

The data of study is limited from 2008 to the present.
5. Rationale, practice and research methods
5.1. Rationale, practice
The   thesis   is   done   on   the   basis   of   the   views   of 
Marxism ­ Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, ways of 
Vietnam’s   Communist   Party   in   building   people   and   new 
lifestyles;   based   on   research   and   the   directives   and 
resolutions of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry 
of Defense in building lifestyle in Vietnam People’s Army.
The thesis is based on the construction practice of 
cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in   the   scope   of   the   officer 

training   schools   of   VPA   through   resolutions,   reports 
results of some schools, interviews and surveys of authors 
in some officer training schools of VPA; while inheriting 
selective research results of scientific works published.
5.2 . Research methods
The   thesis   is   done   on   the   basis   of   scientific 
methodology   of   Marxism   ­   Leninism;   simultaneous   use 
specific   research   methods   of   social   sciences   and 
humanities, such as analysis, synthesis, logic and history, 
statistics,  comparisons,  practical summaries,  sociological 
investigation, interviews and expert methods.
6. New contributions of the thesis
From   the   perspective   of   philosophy,   politics   ­ 
society, dissertation help to clarify the concept of cultural 
lifestyle, cultural lifestyle of students and building cultural 
lifestyle of students in officer training schools of VPA; and 
interpretation of the factors specified in building cultural 
lifestyle of students in officer training schools of VPA.
Dissertation proposed requirements and some basic 
solutions to build cultural lifestyle of students in the officer 
training school of VPA at present, practical contribution to 
the renewal of basic, comprehensive work of education and 
training at the military schools.
7. Practical and  reasoning meaning of the thesis
The   results   of   the   thesis   research   will   provide   the 
scientific foundation for the leaders, commanders at all levels 
in the work of education and training in the military schools; 
and may be references in research and teaching issues related 
to the construction of the cultural lifestyle of the VPA.
The thesis is implemented in practice will improve 

the efficiency of building cultural lifestyle of students in 
officer training schools of VPA, practical contribution to

building military staffs both "red" and "specialized" and 
meet the requirements, the demands of the task of building 
the Army and defend the socialist fatherland of Vietnam .

OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH ISSUES
1. The abroad study­related topics
* The study of culture.
Some works as cultural studies have mentioned the 
relationship between culture and the development of people 
and society. Typical works of D.Ikeda and A.Pecxay, "bell 
warning   for   the   twenty­first   century";   Kawada   Junzo, 
"Respect   cultural   identity   and   creativity   of   the   local 
culture"...   The   above   works   explains   the   relationship 
between economic development and culture; between people 
with production and ecological environment, thus affirming 
the culture is the key, important criterion marking the level 
of human development and social history of the period.
* The study of the socialist way of life and lifestyle.
Lifestyle   is   the   problem   with   broad   connotations, 
complex, reflecting the development of man and society should 
have been in many research scientists. Typically there are some 

works of the scientists in the USSR (former) was translated into 
Vietnamese, including VI Tolstykh, "Lifestyle (concept, reality, 
problems)"; EV Xtorucop, "socialist lifestyle, the theoretical 
issues   and   education   ­   thought";   G.E.Gledoman,   M.N. 
Rutkevich,   XX   Vitsonhepxki,   "socialist   lifestyle";   V.I. 
Dobrunina,   "Soviet   lifestyle,   today   and   tomorrow";   V.G. 
Xinixun "Soviet lifestyle". Works on deeply analyzed concepts 
and distinguished lifestyle with some of the concepts involved; 
specify   the   relationship   between   lifestyle   and   mode   of 
production and the conditions of an economic – social forms; 
which clarifies the concept of a socialist way of life, the basis of 
formation, development, nature, manifestations, problems with 
regularity and ways, measures to build socialism in the USSR 
lifestyle and apply to the other countries.

social lifestyle socialism for today's young officers"; Vu Cong 
Toan, "The influence of individualism in staff at enterprises of 
Vietnam People's Army today ­ the situation and measures to 
prevent and remedy"; Vu Van Thuong, "Fostering cultural 
practitioner law for officer training at military schools in the 

current period" ... These works have analyzed the theoretical 
issues, practical lifestyle socialism and individualism, culture, 
law; thereby offering the basic solutions to foster socialist 
lifestyle,   culture   and   law   and   overcome   the   effects   of 
individualism to personalities who staff our military.
3.   General   evaluation   of   research   results   of 
scientific   works   published   and   theses   issues   should 
focus on solving
* Review generalize research results of scientific  
works published.
Firstly,   the   scientific   work   and   clarification  
issued lifestyle concept.
The scientific works has put forward the concept of 
lifestyle,   there   is   no   distinction   between   "lifestyle"   with 
"standard of living", "lifestyle" and some other close concepts. 
When   analyzing   the   concept   of   lifestyle,   the   authors 
emphasize the characteristics of the basic activities of human 
life; thereby indicating lifestyle including physical and mental 
aspects,  objective  and  subjective  aspects  associated with a 
form of economic – social value. Some authors also stated in 
social class, lifestyle and nature classes. Lifestyle also reflect 
the characteristics of national cultural tradition and the trend 
of the times in certain historical period. 
Secondly,   the   project   analyzed   the   relationship  
between   culture   and   lifestyle   with   some   construction  
culture lifestyle issues in our country. 
Referring   to   the   relationship   between   "lifestyle" 
with   "culture",   some   authors   have   pointed   out,   though 
lifestyle categories are defined according to how well the 
process realize the value and the price system cultural values 

in practical life. However, not all cultural values are human 
beings realize in practice, but the value is human acceptance 
and realization of new life make lifestyle. Therefore, cultural 
lifestyle concept refers to the requirements for the quality 
and personality of the new man, meet the requirements of 
social development and the trend in this period.

Thirdly,   some   of   the   works   mentioned   the  
construction of the socialist lifestyle of young officers and  
the   corrective   influence   of   individualism,   pragmatism  
lifestyle personality of army officers. 
In   the   military,   human   activities   are   affected, 
strongly governed by the laws of armed struggle, the nature 
and characteristics of the military environment. Some studies 
have   indicated   the   specific   expression   of   the   socialist 
lifestyle   of   young   military   officers   and   the   influence   of 
individualism,   pragmatism   is   the   main   reason   causing 
antagonism   between   individuals   and   communities   copper 
and   raises   complex   change   in   psychology,   ideology, 
behavior in performing the task of army staff today.
Fourthly, some work has clarified the issue of the  
cultural lifestyle of students in military schools of VPA. 
Some   studies   have   mentioned   the   construction 
and development of the cultural lifestyle of officer training 
practitioners   and   overcome   the   effects   of   a   pragmatic 
lifestyle   for   students   in   military   schools.   The   research 
works   has   been   appreciated   and   valuable   practical 

reference for the  thesis.  However, the  study of building 
cultural lifestyle of students in officer training schools of 
VPA works was not yet systematically addressed.
* The issues that thesis should focus on solving
Firstly,   study   some   theoretical   issues   about 
building   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in   officer   training 
schools of VPA. Lifestyle concept has broad connotations 
and   multi­level   studies.   Therefore,   the   need   to   further 
clarify   the   concept   of   lifestyle,   cultural   lifestyles;   thus 
making the concept of cultural lifestyles of students and 
build   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in   officer   training 
schools of VPA; and interpretation of the factors specified 
building cultural lifestyle of students in these schools.
Secondly, build a baseline study cultural lifestyle of 
students   in   officer   training   schools   of   VPA.   The 
transformation of economic, politic life, culture ­ society 
in our country has had an impact, impact negatively on 
people's   lifestyles,   especially   the   younger   generation. 
Therefore, the need to appreciate the achievements, only 
the   cause   and   generalize   the   issues   raised   need   to   be 
addressed   in   building   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in 
officer training schools of VPA.
Thirdly, study and propose requirements and some 
basic solutions build cultural lifestyle of students  in the 
officer   training   schools   of   VPA   now,   practical 
contribution to the renewal of basic, whole working area 
of education and training in the military field.

Chapter 1
SOME REASONING PROBLEMS ON BUILDING 
CUTURAL LIFESTYLE OF CADETS IN VIETNAM 
PEOPLE’S ARMY OFFICER TRAINING SCHOOLS 
1.1. Cultural lifestyle and cultural lifestyle of 
the   participants   in   the   officer   training   schools   of 
Vietnam People's Army
1.1.1. The notion of cultural lifestyle
Lifestyle is a concept scientists have been interested in 
research   in   various   aspects.   The   classics   of   Marxism   ­ 
Leninism   has   studied   the   lifestyle   from   accessing   material 
production   activities   to   specify   the   relationship   between 
lifestyle and mode of production of economic – social form. 
Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts to study lifestyle mentioned "status", 
"style", "style" working, living, or "manners" of man, or in 
concept "new life".  The process of Vietnam's revolutionary 
leader,   the   Party   also   attaches   great   importance   to   the 
construction of new lifestyles of people in society. This issue 
also scientists in our country and the new study clarified.
From the study 's conception of Marxism ­ Leninism 
and Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, the Party and some scientists 
conceivable   lifestyle   is   encompasses   basic   activities   of 
human life ( community, social groups and individuals) are 
operated in a system of norms, social values, in relation to 
the   conditions   of   an   economic   –   social   form:  Lifestyle 
conception refers to the basic activities of human life. In  
essence, that is the way people interact with nature and  
society to preserve and develop their life. 
Lifestyle   conception   implies   subjectively   and 

objectively   present.   Therefore,   when   approaching   issues 
lifestyle   not   only   study   its   subjective   side,   but   also   to 
consider the impact objectively, affect such activities.
In   relation   to  culture,   the   lifestyle   is   both   the   core 
content, is both a form of cultural expression. Accordingly, 
possible concepts: culture lifestyle that encompasses activities 
and forms of living, basic behavior of people (communities,  
social   groups   and   individuals)   are   operated   in   a   system  
standards,   national   cultural   values  and   requirements   of  
social development, the era of a certain historical period.
The notion of cultural lifestyles are used to emphasize 
the   requirement­oriented   perceptions,   behaviors,   habits   of 
human   activity   in   a   standard   system,   value   cultural   and 
social   requirements   assembly   time.   However,   do   not

understand the cultural lifestyle behaviors only in specific 
activities,   which   are   reflected   in:   cognitive,   motor,   and 
behavioral   attitudes,   behaviors,   activities,   applications 
human treatment. In essence, it's a lifestyle always have the 
confirmation, honoring the values of right, beauty, positive, 
noble   and   humane.   Thus,   the   basis   to   consider   lifestyle 
culture or no culture that values  truth, goodness, beauty is 
reflected   in   the   perception   and   behavior,   behaviors, 
activities, behavior of children people.
In the cultural lifestyle of the people of Vietnam, the 
activities of life and human behavior is done on the cultural 
and spiritual value of the humanities, the good of the nation. 

Therefore,   cultural   lifestyle   is   reflected   in   the   values  of 
patriotism,   love   of   socialism;   sense   of   self­respect,   self­
reliance, living and working under the Constitution and laws; 
hardworking,   creative   workers;   solidarity,   community 
attachment   high;   very   compassionate,   tolerant,   the 
sentimental, moral; sincerity, simplicity and sophistication in 
communication,   behavior;   acumen,   creativity   absorb   the 
external value; consciously protect and improve the habitat.
The   army   was   loyal   political   forces,   tools   sharp 
violence of the Party and State. Cultural lifestyle of soldiers 
in the Army will be represented at: ideals, noble aspirations, 
absolutely loyal to the Party, the motherland and the people, 
willing  to  sacrifice  fighting  for  independence  because  of 
people   for   socialism;   determination   will   overcome   all 
difficulties   and   hardships   and   sacrifices   to   fulfill   all 
assigned   tasks;   cunning   spirit,   courage   and   creativity   in 
combat, labor and leisure; live acts organized, disciplined 
and regular life; solidarity, inextricably linked; simplicity, 
sincerity,   humility,   honesty   in   life;   serious   sober   in   its 
relations with social behavior and habitat.
1.1.2   .   The   conception   and   characteristics   of 
culture   lifestyle   of   students   in   the   officer   training 
schools of Vietnam People's Army.
* The concept of cultural lifestyle of students in  
these schools officer Vietnam People's Army
The officer training schools of VPA (called officer 
training   schools)   are   the   academies,   the   Ministry   of 
Defense,   officers   are   tasked   with   training   the   subjects 
students to become junior officer detachments to meet the 
mission requirements   in building  armies   and  defend the 

Vietnam’s socialist fatherland.

Students   in   these   schools   are   military   officers   who 
were   admitted   in   military   entrance   exams   and   are   trained 
according to the goals, requirements, contents and programs 
identified. Therefore, they have the following characteristics: 
Firstly,   participants   are   young   people,   qualified   rapid 
cognitive   and   personality   are   in   the   development   stage   to 
become a military officer; however in them and some limited 
experience   of   living   and   lifestyle   habits   of   old.  Secondly, 
students always conscious learning, inherit and promote good 
values in the traditional lifestyle of the people and the quality 
of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"; however in their lifestyles are also 
appearing   some   new   complex   expression.  Thirdly,   the 
students are learning, training in environmental education and 
training closely, unity, humanity, progress; however they are 
facing some difficult and complex impacts from habitat.
Since   then   conceivable:  Lifestyle   culture   of  
students in the officer training schools of Vietnam People's  
Army is the totality of awareness and behavior, habits of  
learning, training and daily life, conduct implemented in a  
system of norms, rules of military and cultural values  of 
humanity, the good of the people, the times and meet the  
development requirements of the quality and personality of  
PhD. It is important in the military.
Cultural lifestyle of the participants is conceived to 
emphasize   the   requirement­oriented   perceptions   and 

behaviors,   routine   operating   under   a   system   of   norms, 
cultural   values.   In   essence,   it's   lifestyle   is   always   a 
manifestation of the value truth, goodness, beauty, from 
awareness to behavior, learning habits, exercise, activities, 
behavior of students in officer training schools.
*   Features   of   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in  
officer training schools of Vietnam People's Army.
Firstly,   unification   of   the   socialist  ideal,   loyal   and 
always put the interests of the Party and the country above 
all else, consciously willing to accept and fulfill all tasks 
assigned. Secondly, there is the right career direction, clarity, 
diligence,   self­discipline   in   learning,   relentless   drive   to 
master the knowledge, skills, work and creative application 
in practice.  Thirdly, the self in life, always appreciated the 
organization   and   military   discipline   and   regular   lifestyle.

Well   aware   of   the   position,   the   importance   of 
building   cultural   lifestyle   of   students   in   the   work   of 
education,   actors   and   students   have   conducted   effective 
operations   on   the   ground.   However,   in   building   cultural 

lifestyle   of   the   students   are   still   a   limited   number   of 
objectives   to   both   content   and   form,   measure   progress, 
requiring continued to be overcome.
The construction of the cultural lifestyle of today's 
students are posing some problems to be solved, such as : 
The   gaps   in   content,   curriculum   and   quality   of   staff, 
faculty   with   the   high   requirements   in   building   cultural 
lifestyle   of   students   in   the   officer   training   schools;   a 
limited   number   of   cognitive   and   behavioral   lifestyle   in 
students with high requirements in implementing cultural 
lifestyle   in   the   officer   training   schools;   creating 
pedagogical environment clean and healthy at the training 
school for military officers affected, the negative effects of 
backwardness   in   society   and   the   process   of   opening, 
international integration.
To   improve   the   efficiency   of   building   cultural 
lifestyle   of   students   in   officer   training   schools   of   VPA 
must   thoroughly   understand   and   implement   some   basic 
requirements­oriented;   and   to   conduct   a   comprehensive 
system   solutions   feasible   as:   Raising   awareness, 
responsibility,   quality   and   capacity   of   stakeholders   in 
developing the cultural lifestyle of students in schools of 
VPA   at   present;   close   cooperation   between   foster   and 
forge cultural lifestyle of students with training activities, 
education and discipline, in the officer training schools of 
VPA now; promote an active role and active participants 
in the officer training schools of VPA process of learning, 
cultivation and training of cultural lifestyles; regular care 
and  physical  and  spiritual  life   of  staff,   faculty,   students 
and   building   cultural   environment   pedagogic   clean   and 

healthy at the officer training schools.
