1. You and your friends are planning to spend a day by the sea, but when you arrive it’s raining. Your
friends suggest three activities: going swimming in-door, watching a movie in the cinema, or going to the
aquariums. Which do you think is the best choice?
2. A student you know wants a summer job where she can meet new people. She is thinking of three
options: being a baby sitter, a shop assistant or a tourist guide. Which one do you think is the best choice?
3. Your teacher has just had a baby boy and you would like to buy him a present. Your friend suggests
three options: a shirt, a toy car and a story for children. Which one do you think is the best choice?
4. Your teacher has invited the whole class to a party at her house. You would like to take her a present.
Your friends’ suggestions are: a plant, some CDs, and a clock. Which would be the best choice?
5. A group of English teenagers is coming to spend a week in Vietnam in summer. They have suggested

returned from The States after four years. Talk about what you could do to spend the evening together
among the following activities: Go to a Vietnamese Restaurant, visit the city and have a drink at your old
pubs or go and watch a film at the cinema.
21. Your friend has moved to a new town and wants to make some new friends. There are three activities
your friend can do to meet people: going to the gym, going to the pub or join and English speaking club.
Which one do you think is best?
22. Your friend is having a birthday party next weekend. You’ve been invited to the party, choose one
present to give him among the following items: a dictionary, a collection of music CDs, a watch.
=> Possible reasons:
- My friend is not keen on music so I think I’d get him a dictionary instead.
- Well, a dictionary might be a bit boring for him. Actually, he hates reading; he doesn’t even like reading

digital news on the net. I suppose a dictionary is a bad idea.


- Perhaps I can buy him/her a waterproof watch so that he can wear it when he goes swimming.
- Another possible option is to get him a watch and music CDs together if they are not expensive. The
collection of music CDs is not a bad idea. My friend loves “Cold Play”- so, I can give him their latest CD.
