TASK 2: Write an essay of 300 words on the following topic:
Parents now put too much pressure on their children to succeed. What are the reasons
for doing this?
It is true that parents these days create redundant tension in their children’s success.
There are two primary reasons that might be responsible for this trend, which are listed in the
paragraphs below.
The first reason why parents tend to put much strain on their offspring is to help them
survive in adult's life. It is certain that parents are those who know perfectly well how harsh
the life will be when their children get older, therefore, in order to succeed in this competitive
life, they believe that their children must have numerous knowledge. That leads to the fact
that children are forced to learn compulsory subjects at schools as well as talented classes
such as martial arts, dance, art with a hectic timetable. Consequently, the children have to
spend most of their time studying, instead of relaxing and playing with friends, leading to
stress among these youngsters.
The psychology of winning and losing might be the second reason resulting in this
problem. Parents are always afraid that other children have success while their children do

not. Hence, when their children succeed, they are likely to show off their children’s
achievement without thinking about others’ feelings whose children do not have such high
marks, or achievements. Bringing that psychology, they tend to put squeeze on their offspring.
For instance, a boy is living near my house who always has high scores in his exam.
Unfortunately, one day, he failed his History test. That made his mother feel very angry and
she even shouted at him and criticized him for the bad result. After being insulted, the boy felt
very disappointed, stressed and anxious. These feelings have negative effects on the
development of the children.
In conclusion, though the enforcement of parents might help to gain the success of
children, I believe that this could be psychologically disadvantageous for them.
