1. Introduction.
1.1. Reasons of choosing the topic.
Today, English is not only the most popular language in the world but it is a
popular foreign language in Viet Nam, as well. Therefore, proficiency in English
will be a great advantage for future jobs as well as have opportunities to start
business in the global integration nowadays. To keep up with this process,
teaching and learning English is paid attention especially by Ministry of
education and training in our country. The national foreign language project
2020 in Thanh Hoa province have taken an emphasis on the teaching and
learning English along the way. This requires each student to have a certain level
of English to understand situations and communicative at different level . Over

the past years, the Ministry of Education and training has directed to compose
textbooks in the direction of communication for secondary and high school.
These books are more and more difficult with communicative situations in
practical life.
If teachers only provides students with grammars and vocabularies without
the direction of communicative situations, students will be feel frightened,
confused when communicating, especially communicating with English
speakers, because students don’t have oppotunities to apply their knowledge in
real- life situations. From the above reasons, I am always anxious to find out
what communicative situations the students usually make mistakes when
speaking and doing exercises to help them more confident in English. The
teaching initiative “ Solving some mistakes about situations of communicative
English exercises for students high school”.
1.2. Aim of the study.
With the initiative, I would like to make a small contribution to the
wonderful sources of communicative English materials. And by applying the
initiative, teachers will help students solve mistakes when doing communicative
exercises in exams.
In addition, I also want to help students integrate knowledge about English
grammar and vocabularies with communicative situations to have
understandings about real situations in life as well as restrict mistakes when
doing exercises.
1.3. Scope of the Study.
- Knowledge: Mistakes about situations of communicative English.
- Student: Le Hoan high school
- School year: 2019 - 2020
1.4. Method of the Study.
During the project, I used the following measures:
- Analyze the practical situations of teaching and learning English.
- Find mistakes of communicative situations.

- Study teaching method to the communicative way of the foreign language
project 2020

2.1. Theoretical background.
The concept of communicative approach is an approach to language
teaching that emphasizes interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of
study. Language learners learn and practice the target language through the
interaction with one another and the instructor, and through the use of the
language both in class and outside class.
Learners converse about personal experiences with partners and
instructors teach topics outside of the real of traditional grammar in order to
promote language skill in all types of situations. This encourages learners to
incorporate their personal experiences into their language learning environment.
The goal of language education is the ability to communicative in the
target language. A language learner needs to understand and express
communicative meanings rather than describe the core of language through
traditional concepts of grammar and vocabulary.
From the grounds above, understanding and expressing communicative
English situations play an essential role in learning progress. Therefore, I find
out and analyze mistakes, learners usually make when communicating or doing
exercies related to it.
2.2. The status of the problem.
The informants of the study consist of 12B students from three classes
10A9, 11A1 and 11A2 and 7 teachers of English at Le Hoan high school.
- To the teachers.
Most of the teachers are highly qualified, enthusiastic and keen on learning.

They have taught communicative English lessons and lesson plans about it.
However, there are some teachers who don’t still feel confident when teaching
situations and have some difficulties in solving exercises about communicative
exercises in national high school exams. In addition, most of teachers only focus
on teaching vocabularies, grammars, developing reading and writing skills but
they have little paid attention to speaking skill.
- To students.
* Advantage:
Most of students have wide knowledge about grammar, vocabularies, have
skills in doing reading or writing exercises.
* Disadvantage:
A large number of students are bad at English speaking. They are not
confident when speaking English. They have difficulties in identifying
communicative English situations, even basic situations.
2.3. Solutions to the problem.
From the theoritical and practical basic, I find study and summarize the
mistakes students usually make a misunderstand when they communicative or
doing exercises related to communicative English situations. Therefore, in the
school year 2019 – 2020, I have applied my findings in teaching to help students
develop communicative skills as well as feel confident in doing exercises related
to it.

2.7. Result after applying the research in teaching
The following data is the result of the second term after applying the
research in the school year 2019 – 2020.

From the figure above, we can see that summarizing and analyzing some
mistakes the students make mistakes when doing communicative English
exercises help students get high resulters and feel more confident. These force
me to try harder and harder to get higher achievement. Furthermore, at the
beginning of the school year, most of the students feel confused and afraid when

doing communicative exercises in English, but now, according to the recent
survey, 100% of students class 10A9 and 11A1 said “ We feel confident and
eager when doing this kind of exercises”. These show that the research is
suitable, students are eager to do exercises.
3. Conclusion and proposal.
3.1. Conclusion

S

Many studies and educational realities around the world have shown that
communicative English is an approach to language teaching in which a student
learns from real life interaction, which can help to reinforce the value of their
studies. Therefore, helping students to find the mistakes they usually make when
speaking or doing exercises related to communicative English situations is really
necessary. It is a motivation that helps students feel confident when speaking as
well as doing exercises.
However, it is not easy to get fluency in the second language. It is a long and
hard process. I hope my idea “ Solving some mistakes about situations of
communicative English’’ can help the students as well as the other teachers in
their learning and teaching English process because I can not avoid some
mistakes in my writing , your opinions will be useful for me to perfect it.
3.2. Recommendation.
The result show that this initiative is highly feasible and can be applied not only
to students in some classes but also to students of high schools in Thanh Hoa
province.
In the process of implementing , I have some proposals.
Firstly to the students, they should spend much more time at home on acquiring

knowledge concerning topics and enrich their vocabulary regularly.
Secondly to the teachers, they should be thoughtful and flexible enough to guide
students the mistakes they usually make again.
Thirdly to high schools, they should be equiped with modern devices and
organize more extra activities for students to practise the target language.
