ABSTRACT
This minor thesis focused on the problems of using group work in English speaking
class and offered group work as a key to improve speaking skill of the first year students at
the College of Technology- Economics in Trade.
The two main mentioned problems were unequal participation and students' overuse of
Vietnamese. By setting rules and assigning role, the students have got more equality in
distribution to group work activities. And by encouraging students to speak more English in
the speaking lessons, pre-teaching some new words and giving stricter regulations, the teacher
has minimised the use of mother tounge in group work activities.
At the end of the thesis, some suggestions for conducting group work have been given.
Some newly arising problems were also pointed out for further research.
