SECTION II:
Read the text and choose the correct option (A–D) to complete the sentences (1–5).
Designing for the outside
Drew Aquilina: Landscape architect and environmental cartoonist.
Drew Aquilina is a landscape architect. As a child he loved plants and animals and studied nature. Then, later in
life, he studied architecture, and now he designs areas outside with trees and flowers.
It's a creative and highly-skilled job and he's very busy, travelling and working in different places. However, he
also has another job. He's an environmental cartoonist, and during the day he thinks about his next cartoon. Drew
says, 'When I get a break, I plan a cartooning storyline I want to draw in the evening.'
At the end of the day, he goes home and has dinner with his wife Lisa. They talk about the day and discuss his new
ideas for cartoons. Lisa often helps him with ideas for the dialogues. Then, when most people are relaxing and
watching TV for the evening, Drew finally sits down and starts work on the cartoons. He often works until late in
the evening and, when it goes well, until early in the morning.
Drew's latest book of cartoons, called 'Green Pieces: Green from the Pond Up', has even won a book award. And

when he has spare time, what does he do? More work! He loves going outside and working in the garden.
Câu 1: Look at the title of the article. What do you think the article will be about?
A
how to have two jobs
B why we should protect the environment
C information about Drew and the jobs he does
D how to become an architect.
Câu 2: Read the first paragraph. Then choose the best summary sentence.
A Drew studied architecture because when he was a child he loved nature.
B Designing outside spaces with trees and flowers shows that Drew loved nature as a child.
C Drew's love of nature from childhood influenced his decision to become a landscape architect.
D. Drew doesn’t love nature.
Câu 3: Read the second paragraph. Then choose the best summary sentence.

A Drew's job is busy, but he finds time to think about what to draw in his next cartoon.
B Drew doesn't enjoy being an environmental cartoonist.
C Drew spends his breaks planning his next environmental cartoon.
D He is busy so he has no time for his drawing.
Câu 4: Read the third paragraph. Then choose the best summary sentence.
A In the evenings, Drew discusses ideas for cartoons with his wife before starting work on them.
B Drew doesn't relax in the evenings because he has to keep working on his cartoons.
C Drew's wife, Lisa, helps him with his cartoons before watching TV in the evening.
D He does nothing, just watching TV.
Câu 5: Read the final paragraph. What can we guess from the information?
A Drew has written more than one book of cartoons.
B Drew works in the garden so he can create better cartoons.
C Drew likes winning book awards for his cartoons.
D He doesn’t like working anymore.

The answer: C-C-A-C-C
SECTION III:
Put the sentences in order to make a conversation.
DIALOGUE 1
A. That's very kind of you, but I think I know what I want. I've spent the last few days doing research on the
Internet.
If you're not busy, I wouldn't mind some company, though.
B. I only did a short course. I'm not really good enough yet but I'm going to learn some more. Then who knows
what
I'll be able to do?
C. I've got lots of time, and you know I like these kinds of shops.
D. Good morning, Bobby. I'm buying a new computer.
E. You probably don't know, but I've taken a little course in graphic design. I help my local theatre club with all
their
leaflets and programmes. I design them, we send them to a printer's and then give them out at the theatre.

F. Oh, I see. Would you like me to help you?
G. Yes, you've always liked gadgets − even when you were a little boy. Look this is what I was thinking of
getting – an all-in-one computer.
H. Hello, Grandma! What are you doing here?
I. You could get a real job doing that kind of thing.
J. They're great! And they take up less space too. What exactly do you want to do on it?
DIALOGUE 2
A. Don’t worry. If I bring my GPS, we’ll know exactly where we are at all times. What about food?
B. Good idea. If you carry the food in your canoe, I’ll pack both the tents in mine.
C. I normally take tins and packets of food when I go on a trip like this.
D. Well, I don’t know what the weather’s going to be like. If it rains, we’ll need all this waterproof clothing.
E. If we don’t have a map, we’ll probably get lost.
F. If something happens to one of us, then the other person either won’t have any food or won’t have a tent.

Hopefully
that won’t happen if we’re careful.
G. Maybe that’s not such a good idea.
H. Hi Sandy. What are you going to take with us?
I. Why?
J. Yes, but if we take all that, there won’t be space for anything else. Anyway, when I go canoeing I always get wet.
Why are you packing that?
I. Oh, well. That’s OK. What time does it open?
J. Oh dear. Perhaps I’d better choose something else. Thank you.
