Grammar and vocabulary 1
The + adjective = common noun
( Danh tõ tËp hỵp)
Eg : old ( adj)

 The old (n) = old people

rich (adj)  The rich (n) = Rich people
Note: Common nouns are used to describe a
group of people, so they are followed by a
plural verb.
Eg: - The old like living in the countryside.
- The rich often have a lot of money.

Note: Used to + infinitive is used to express a

past habit or past state.

Eg : I used to own a bike 5 yeas ago.


Form:

(+) S + used to + Vinfi.
eg: I used to cry when I was a baby.
(-) S + didn’t + use to + Vinf.
eg: She didn’t use to go to the theatre.
(?) Did + S + use to + Vinfi ?
Yes, S + did. / No, S + didn’t.
eg: Did you used to eat candy when you was a
child?
Yes, I did.
Wh- word + did + S + use to + Vinfi?
 S + used to + Vinfi.

eg: Where did you use to go when you were in
London?
I used to go to the theatre.

“ Which” as a connector
• Eg: She can’t speak English. It is her
disadvantage.
• “It” = She can’t speak English.
 She can’t speak English, which is her
disadvantage.
• “ which” = “ It” = She can’t speak English.
• Note: which đợc dùng trong mệnh đề quan
hệ để thay thÕ cho 1 mƯnh ®Ị quan hƯ
®øng tríc nã.


Exercise 3:
Join a sentence from A with one from B to make a new
