6. Read the following passage and answer the questions.
A long and happy marriage is something that many people wish for, but finding the right partner is
much more difficult than you might imagine. A friend of mine, Susan, had not been very successful in her
attempt to find the perfect partner, and she was beginning to lose heart and feel rather depressed. One day she
happened to hear someone talking about a computer dating agency which could help her to find the ideal
partner. Susan immediately made an appointment to see someone at the agency, then waited to see what would
happen. The agency arranged a meeting with a "suitable” partner at the local railway station a week later,
although I advised her not to go. My friend arrived a few minutes early but could see no one who matched the
appearance of the man in the photograph she had been sent. She noticed a man waiting under the station clock
and holding a bunch of flowers. But there was no one else around. Suddenly the man started chatting to her
and, after a while, he asked her if she would like to go and have a coffee. Not until much later did they come
to the conclusion that they had both waiting for each other! When they had both recovered from the shock,
they decided that the computer had been right after all!

7. Read the following passage and answer the questions.
Over the past few years, in both the USA and the UK, the number of multi-generational households with three
or four generations living under the same roof has increased. This trend has been result of several economic
factors.
High unemployment rates, part-time work and low-paid jobs have forced young adults to back with their
parents. In addition, families now face high costs of housing and heavier pressures of both childcare and
elderly care.

4
Living under the same roof with three or four generations can be frustrating because of the lack of space,
independence and privacy, and the daily conflicts brought about by differences in values and attitudes.
However, its advantages outweigh the disadvantages. When living with members of their expected family,
young children can develop relationships with adults other than their parents, and old people can become more
active when they interact with the young generations.
Whether we accept it or not, the trend keeps growing as more and more people are choosing traditional
extended families.
Answer the following questions.
