<b>1. Past progressive tense (Thì Q khứ tiếp diễn) : </b>
<b>a. Form (Cấu trúc) </b>



- Affirmative form (Thể khẳng định)
Ex: I was watching TV at nine o’clock
<b>- Negative form: (Thểphủ định)</b>


Ex: they weren’t doing their homework at that time.
- Interrogative form: (Thể nghi vấn)


Ex: Were you playing soccer at eight o’clock ?


<b>b. Usage: (Cách dùng) Thì Quá khứ tiếp diễn được dùng để diễn tả:</b>


 Hành động đang xảy ra tại một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ.


Ex: Nga was practising the piano at 7 p.m last Sunday.
What were you doing at this time yesterday ?


 Hành động đã xảy ra và kéo dài trong một khỏang thời gian xác định trong quá khứ.


Ex: I was painting all day yesterday.


They were playing tennis from 8 a.m to 10 a.m last Saturday.


 Một hành động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ thì một hành động quá khứ khác xảy đến (hai hành


động này thường được nối liền bằng liên từ when hoặc while )
Ex: We were having dinner when he came yesterday.


I saw her while I was crossing the road.


 Hai hay nhiều hành động xảy ra song song trong quá khứ (thường được nối bằng liên từ while)



Ex: The children were playing outside while their mother was cooking dinner.
Lưu ý: Liên từ when (khi, thì), while (trong khi) được dùng để nối hai mệnh đề.


Khi when, while được đặt ở đầu câu, giữa hai mệnh đề phải có dấu phẩy (,)
<b>2. Progressive tense with “ always” (Thì tiếp diễn với always)</b>


 Trạng từ always có thể được dùng với thì tiếp diễn để diễn tả:


a. Hành động được lặp đi lặp lại trong quá khứ gây cho người nói sự bực mình, khó chịu.
Ex: He was always losing his keys.(<i>Anh ta cứ làm mất chìa khóa hồi)</i>


b. Hành động hoặc sự việc tình cờ xảy ra rất thường xuyên.
Ex: I’m always meeting Mrs. Blake in the supermarket.


<i>(Tôi luôn gặp bà Blake ở siêu thị)</i>


c. Hành động có tính liên tục


Ex: He’s always working = He works the whole time . (<i>OÂng ấy làm việc suốt)</i>
