<b>Lesson 1: </b> <b>Getting started. “A special day”</b>
<b>A. Objectives:</b> By the end of the lesson, students can:


- use the lexical items related to the topic 'My New School'.
- read for specific information.


<b>B. Language focus:</b>


- Grammar: the present simple and the present continuous.


- Vocabulary: calculator, special, pencil sharpener, calculator, ruler, compass, pencil case,
textbook, school bag, notebook, rubber, a bicycle.


<b>C. Teaching aids:</b> board, tape, pictures, textbook, ….


<b>D. Procedure:</b>
<b>I. Warm – up:</b>


* Show the picture on page 1 to Ss and ask questions about the picture:
- How many people are there in the picture?


- What is Phong doing?
- Who are Vy and Duy?


- Is it a special day for them? Why?


<b>II. New lesson:</b>


<b>1. Listen and read.</b>


a. Play the recording. Ss listen and read.


* Ss work independently. Allow them to share answers before discussing in groups or as a class.

b. Tell 5s to refer back to the conversation to find the expressions.( pair work)
* Explain the meaning (or give synonyms) to the Ss, then give some examples.

c. Ask Ss to role-play the short conversations in pairs before creating short role-plays.
More able Ss can try to extend the conversation.( pair work)


<b>2. Listen and read the poem.</b>


- Play the recording


- Let the whole class read the poem with the right intonation and rhythm.
- Ask questions to check Ss' understanding of the poem.


- Ss work in pairs and write a poem about their partner, then read the poem aloud.

<b>3. Match the words with the school things</b>


- Ask Ss to match the words with the school things.
- Play the 'recording. Ss listen and repeat.


- Let them practice saying the names of school things.


- Help explain the meaning if necessary, e.g. use visual aids in the classroom.
- Ask Ss to write the correct words in the spaces.


- Allow Ss to check their answers (in pairs or in groups

2 – e: compass 7 – f : notebook


3 – j: school bag 8 – a: bicycle


4 – d: rubber 9 – g: ruler


5 – c: calculator 10 – h: textbook


<b>4. Extending vocabulary.</b>


- Tell 5s to look around the class. Ask what they see around them/what they have (point to each St)
Ex: table, desks, notice-board, pictures, slogan (khẩu hiệu) , curtain, ...



=> Let them practice the words, and make up sentences with the words if there is enough time.


<b>III. Homework:</b>


- Ask ss to: + building up their vocabulary.
+ do exercises in the workbook


+ prepare part “A closer look 1” for the next lesson.
