<b>Lesson: Unit 13: HOBBIES, Part A: Reading.</b>


<b>Class details: Size: 47 students, grade 11B3</b>
<b>Date: 22/03/2012</b>


<b>Aims: To help students learn and practice sub-skills of reading.</b>
<b>Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:</b>


- Explain the meaning in context.
- Read the passage for comprehension
- Remember the main ideas of the passage.
- Talk about their own hobbies.


<b>Skills: Guessing meaning in context, scanning for specific information and passage</b>
comprehension.


<b>Teaching aids & materials: textbook, pictures, handout, posters, blackboard.</b>
<b>Lexical items: accomplished, fish tank, accompany, occupied, discard.</b>

<b>Game: Bingo!</b>


- T asks Ss to close their book.


- T shows a list of relaxing activities.
- T asks Ss to take a piece of paper.
- T gives the instruction to play game:


<i>“I have a list of activities which people often do in their</i>
<i>free time. You will choose any four words and copy them</i>
<i>into your paper. I will read out the words in any order.</i>
<i>Each time, if you have one of the words that I read, you put</i>
<i>a tick next to that word. The first student to tick all four</i>
<i>words will say “Bingo!” and win the game.”</i>


<i>- T checks the instruction:</i>


<i>T: How many words do you choose?</i>
<i>Ss: Four</i>


<i>T: What do you do if you have four correct words?</i>
<i>Ss: Say “Bingo!”</i>


- Ss play the game.


- T declares the winner and gives gift.

<i>sing very well. Besides, he is also famous actor. He is an</i>
<i>accomplished person.</i>

- T models the word and asks Ss to repeat chorally in
twice.


- T calls some students to repeat individually and then
shows the word.


- T asks Ss to copy down in 1 minute.

- T asks Ss to close their notebooks and look at the board.
- T uses “Rub out and Remember” to check vocabulary.
- T asks Ss to listen and repeat the words


- T asks Ss to repeat twice.


- T clears word by word and asks Ss to repeat all the
words.


- T calls Ss to go to the board and rewrite them.
- T checks the answers

<i>false. You have 5 minutes to do it”.</i>


- T checks the instruction.

- T checks the instruction:


<i>T: Do you work in pairs or in group?</i>
<i>Ss: In pair,</i>


<i>T: What do you do next?</i>


<i>Ss: Read the passage and answer the questions.</i>
<i>T: How long?</i>


<i>Ss: Four minutes.</i>


<b>- T gives Ss the handout.</b>


- T asks Ss to read the whole passage again and answer
the questions in 4 minutes.


Unit 13 : HOBBIES – reading


<i>Task 2: Read the passage and answer the questions:</i>
1. What did writer’s uncle advice him?


2. How did he collect his fish?


3. Where does he collect the stamps?


4. What does the writer do with the less common


stamps?


After 4 minutes, T asks Ss to play the game “ Lucky
Numbers”


- T divides the whole class into two teams: A & B.
- T gives the instruction:


+ There are 6 numbers: 2 lucky numbers and 4 normal
numbers.


+ You will take turn to choose the number. If your number

is lucky, your team will get 2 marks without answering
the question


+ If not, you will have to answer a question and if your
answer is correct, you will get 2 marks
