Unit 8: Letter H
Lesson 3
I. Objectives
- By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:
- Practice the sound of the letter Hh and the corresponding words
- Learn and practice reading skills
- Sing a song
II. Language focus: ● Pronunciation: H, h /eit∫ /
*Vocabulary: hat, hen, hippo
*Intergrate skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing.
*Sight words: a, happy, my
III. Resources:
- I-learn my phonics Grade 1, Pupil’s book - Page 36
 IV. Materials : CD, Phonics cards

VI. Procedures
Teacher’s and Students’ activities
Content
1.Warm - up: (5’)
- Have students play a game: where is the letter
- Divide class into three groups,
- Deliver photocopies of pages from some story books
for each group.
- Pupils search and circle the letter Hh on these pages in
3 minutes
- The winner is the group that circles the most Hh
2. Revision & Practice
Act 4. Listen, read along. (8')
- Point to the object hat, pupils read.
- Repeat with hen and hippo
- Play the CD, have pupils listen and point to the pictures
of the key words when they hear them in the story
- Play the CD again, pupils listen and look at their book
and read along
- Individual read again
- Give feedback
* Activity: pairs work (5')

- Play game

- Repeat
- Listen
- Read along



- Have pupils work in pairs: one reads, while the other
- Work in pair
listens and checks, give feedback
- Swap roles
- Move around and give necessary help
* Activity : sight words (5')
- Point to and say the sight words: a, happy, my
- Listen and repeat
- Have pupils listen and repeat

Act 5. Song (7')
- Put the hat, hen and hippo phonics cards up on the
board.
- Point to the hippo with the hat and say: “a hippo with a - Repeat
hat”. The students repeat.
- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the
song.
- Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.
- Listen and sing along
- Play the CD again. The pupils sing and do

corresponding actions.
3. Production (5’)
- Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick them on
the board.
- Give the students a minute to look at the cards.
- Have students close their eyes and then you take away
one cards.
- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the

missing cards
- Chant with out book.

Lesson 4
I. Objectives

- Read and say the three Hh words correctly
- Recognize and say a new Hh word correctly
II. Language focus: ● Pronunciation: H, h /eit∫ /
*Vocabulary: hat, hen, hippo, horse
*Intergrate skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing.
III. Resources:
- I-learn my phonics Grade 1, Pupil’s book - Page 37
 IV. Materials : CD, Phonics cards

VI. Procedures

1.Warm - up: (5’)
- Greet students
- Play the song from lesson 2, ask students to sing along
and do corresponding actions.
2. Revision & Practice
Act 6. Say the words. Match (6')
- Point to the letter H in hat and revise the sound
- Point to the word and ask pupils to read them aloud.
- Point to the pictures and elicit their names.
- Have the students match the words with appropriate
pictures.
- Give feedback
* Activity: Thumbs Up or Down (5')
- Show up the phonics cards and say the words
- Ask the students to put their thumbs up if the teacher
says correctly and put their thumbs down if the teacher
says in correctly.
e.g. Teacher: show the hen card, say hat
Class: putting their thumbs down
Teacher: Good! show the horse card and say
horse

Act 7. Listen. Point and repeat (8')
- Show the students the horse phonics card. Point to it
and say: /h/ - horse. Ask them to repeat.
- Mime trying to ride a horse and say: /h/ - horse.
Encourage the students to do the same
- Point to the pictures, the students do corresponding
actions and say the words.
- Divide the class intogroups of two.
- The first student point to the pictures and the other
student say the word then change the roles.

* Colour the pictures of the words that start the H
sound (5')
- Point to the pictures and have the students name them

- Set the time for students to colour the pictures of the
words that start with h sound
- Go around the class, provide necessary help
3. Production (5’)
- Ask the students to take out their notebooks.
- Ask them to choose one word the draw the letter and
the picture in their notebooks.
- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.
- The three first students who finish will show their
picture to the class.
