Unit 9. Letter I
Lesson 1
I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge:
- By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:
- Recognize and pronounce the letter Ii and its sound correctly
- Understand, recognize and say the three Ii words
- Write the letter Ii
Pronunciation: I, i /ai/
*Vocabulary: Revision: Ink, igloo, iguana
*Intergrate skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing.
* Sight words: Oh no, my
2. Skills:
- Develop Ss speaking, reading and listening skills
3. Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson.
Work hard
II. TEACHING AIDS:
computers, ipads, smart phones
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

Act 1. Listen, point and repeat. Colour (20')
Listen, point and
- Use a card with letter Ii (or write on board the letter repeat. Colour (20')
Ii) to introduce to the students the new lesson.
- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name
and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter I/aɪ
/. The letter I says /ɪ/.”
- Repeat several times and check students’
pronunciation (letter I /a/ and its sound /ɪ/)
- Use the phonics cards with ink, igloo and iguana,
read the words out loud and have students repeat.
- Use gestures (hand actions) to help students to
understand the meanings of the three words.
(ink: imitate writing with a pen, igloo: mime being
cold, iguana: make a lizard’s head with hand and
move it left and right quickly)

- Show each cards and have students repeat the
words chorally several times
- Correct their mistakes (if any)
2. Production (9’)

* Activity2: acting out
- Call a volunteer student to the front of the class.
- Show him/her a phonics card or whisper a word,
and have student act it out
- The other students will guess the word of the
picture
- Who guesses correctly first will get a small gift

Act 1. (12')
Listen and point
- Have students look at the screen and listen to the
words: Oh no, my ink. Oh no, my igloo. Oh no, my
iguana.
- Have students point to the correct object when they
hear the words from the recording
- Have students listen and repeat the words for several
times
- Give feedback
- Ask students to look at the pairs of pictures on the side
and choose the correct one for each corresponding item
(base on the colour)
- Go around the classroom, ask students to name the item
they are matching
* Activity 2: (5')
Colour
- Ask students to choose their favourite crayons and
colour the letter Ii on their pupil’s book (page 42)
- Move around and ask some individuals to repeat the
letter I /aɪ / and its sound /ɪ/. Give feedback



* Activity 3: (5')
Optional Game
Step 1
- Give instructions of how to play the game. Give each
student one card with a word/words/letter (I/Ii/ III /Ink
/Ingloo/Iguana…). Students take turn to show their cards
and say the word(s)/letter. (Note: I says /ɪ /, III
says /ɪ /ɪ /ɪ /…)
Step 2
- Have a group of students to go in front of the class and
show up their cards. Read any word(s)/letter out loud.
Students holding the card with the read word(s)/letter
must jump high.
- Do the same procedure with other groups, ask students
to read the word(s)/letter instead of the teacher.
- Give feedback
Act 4. (5')
Chant and show!
- Read the words, ask students to listen and do the
gestures for each word (2 or 3 times).
- Play the audio, ask students to sing and do the gestures
with the chant.
- Give feedback
3. Production (5’)
Writing in the air
* Activity 4:
Show the letter Ii again, have students write the Ii in air
with their fingers

Review the new words, model sentences.
