Some trees give their early flowers in February but others still wait until the end of

A/ Summer comes again. The young leaves are sprouting and then almost shade the street with
many big light green umbrella, giving people a sense of peace and relax when you are exploring
this small town during the hot days. Tiny flowers soon dot your green umbrella with lime


shapes. A breeze will shower your hair with the flower sparkling like diamonds on the princess’s
hair.


If you visit the town at the beginning of December, you will see tamarinds hanging like
strange lanterns. Schoolgirls in pairs or in groups of three- in white ao dai, stroll down the street
enjoying their juicy tamarinds. The sun goes though the foliage just to light the innocent faces !
Their voice seems to rhyme with the twittering of the sparrows in the high branches ! Tamarinds
are used in cooking and can be preserved for future use. People make no profit from the fruit,
but the street has reminded people of the town, of something ancient, yet charming and nice.

<b>A. Read the following paragraph and answer the questions:</b>


The city’s main economic activity was cod fishing, the white fish found mainly in the North
Atlantic. But from the 1980s less and less fish were being caught and the government effectively
banned cod fishing to protect the species. This was a major blow to the region. However, the sea
instead provided them with oil and gas reserves to exploit which now is the principal activity.


So, what to look for when you are here? Firstly, there are two traditions. These in fact
become popular tourist activities. The first is kissing the cod. Remember that fish mentioned
earlier? Well, as a visitor you have to kiss one. The second is called the “screech in”. You simply
have to drink a glass of Jamaican rum. Screech in English means a little scream of displeasure. You
can imagine how this rum tastes. All good entertainment of the locals!
