- Use some football vocabulary to ask and answer about the World Cup and to
talk about the World Cup winners.

<b>III. Students’ level: 10</b>th<sub> grade students.</sub>

<b>V. Teaching aids:</b>


- Textbook, handouts, board, extra boards.
<b>VI. Anticipated problems</b>


- Students may not have sufficient vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T
should be ready to assist them.

<i><b>Instruction</b></i>: Match the names of famous footballers to their


national team.


-T gives names of some famous footballers in the handouts:
Totti, Rooney, Ronaldo, Ballack, Buffon, Frings, Beckham,
Ronaldinho, Tervez, Benzema, Henry, Messi.


-T divides Ss into six groups. Each group will be given a
country (Group 1: Brazil, Group 2: Germany, Group 3:
England, Group 4: Italy,Group 5: Argentina,Group 6: France )
- T asks these groups to write down their answers on the board
- T checks.


<b>Answer: </b>


G1. Brazil: Ronaldo, Ronaldinho
G2. Germany: Ballack, Frings
G3. England: Rooney, Beckham

- Before starting the quiz, T asks Ss to name the teams
in the photos on the pape 145 (photo 1: the English
team, photo2: the French team, photo 3: the Italian
team, photo 4: the German team).


- Then T divides the class into small groups of 8 and
write answers on the mini boards.


- T might want to pre-teach Ss some vocabulary:
+ Draw (n,v): hoà


+ Lost to Sb: thua ai
+ Defeat Sb : đánh bại ai


+ Pentalty shootout (n):cú phạt đền
+ Quarter final (n): trận tứ kết
+Semi final (n): trận bán kết
+ Final (n): trận chung kết.


- T goes around to check that Ss work and speak
English. Then T checks the answers with the whole
class.


- T calls on some Ss to talk about these teams, using
the information of the quiz.

reminds Ss of pronunciation of the names of


countries, the score, order numbers, years mentioned
in the table on the page 145.


- T gets Ss to work in pairs.


- T goes around checking and offering help.


- T calls on some pairs to perform in front of the class.
T asks other Ss to listen and give comments.

<i><b>Instruction</b></i>: Work in groups.Take turn to talk about the WC


winners, using the information in the table in Task 2.
