One of the inventions made in the world of science and technology is the telephone. This
instrument has become an important part in our daily life. The " telephone" comes from two
Greek words "tele" and "phone". These words mean "far" and "sound". The telephone uses
electricity to carry sound over a distance. So you see, the two Greek words tell us exactly what
the instrument does.


Since its invention by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, the design of the telephone set has
changed greatly. However, the way the telephone works is still the same.
