A: PRONUCIATION:

MAIN STRESS ON A TWO-SYLLABLE WORD
(DẤU TRỌNG ÂM CHÍNH TRÊN MỘT TỪ CĨ HAI VẦN)

Lý thuyết: Theo nguyên tắc thì dấu trọng âm nằm trên căn ngữ và từ một vần khơng có dấu trọng âm. Với từ có 
hai vần thì thơng thường dấu trọng âm sẽ xuất hiện theo các quy tắc phổ biến sau:

Ví dụ: Acting, pOInting, wAking, bIggest, thInner, fAtter, rUdeness, pAssive, becOme, avOId, withOUt, ….
a. Danh từ, tính từ, trạng từ: Nhấn vần thứ nhất

Ví dụ: an Import, an Actor, a dOctor, frIEndly, mAInly, EARly,…….

b. Động từ, hoặc các từ bắt đầu bằng BE-, các từ có tận cùng là –ICE /i:s/; hoặc các giới từ: Nhấn vần thứ
hai

Ví dụ như: to impORt, withOUt,withIn, benEAth, besIde, besIdes, behInd, behAlf, belIEf, polIce, AlIce,... ;
hoặc liên từ althOUgh...

Ví dụ: to begIn, to protEct, to purchAse, to compOse,…….
c. Động từ 2 van tận cùng là –EN: Nhấn vần thứ nhất

Ví dụ: to hAppen, to wIden, to strEngthen, wrItten, tAken, bEAten, ……

d. Lưu ý: một số từ ngoại lệ(Nhấn vần thứ nhất ): to vIsit, stUdy(n/v), to mAnage, Answer(n/v),
(n/v)desIgn, surround(n/v)…..

II/ MAIN STRESS ON A MORE THAN THREE-SYLLABLE WORD (DẤU TRỌNG ÂM CHÍNH TRÊN 
TỪ CĨ TỪ BA VÂN TRỞ LÊN)

Ngun tắc chung: Đối với từ có từ ba trở lên thì dấu trọng âm nằm ở: vần thứ ba kể từ vần cuối.

Ví dụ: possibÍlity, dÉmonstrate, Éxercise, incrÉdible, curiĨsity, ggraphy, varÍety, mechÁnical, 
cĨncentrate, eqvalent,...

TRƯỜNG HỢP ĐẶC BIỆT KHÁC CẦN THUỘC LỊNG: (Khơng phân biệt từ có mấy vần)
A. Dấu nhấn nằm ngay trên các vần tận cùng là: -ADE, -EE, -EEN, -EER, -ESE, -OO, -OON

Ví dụ: parADE, lemonADE, decrEE, fiftEEN, eightEEN, carEER, ChinESE, bambOO, shampOO, ballOON,
cartOON, employÉE ….

Ngoại trừ: dEcade / ’dekeid /(B.E) /di’keid/ (A.E)

B. Dấu nhấn nằm ngay trên vần trước của các vần tận cùng là: -ION, -IC, -IAL, -URE, -OUS, -ITY, -IVE,
-ION, -IC, -IAL, -IAN, -IENCE, -IENT, -IAR, -IOUS, UOUS, -URE,...

Ví dụ: nAtion, mEntion, tEnsion, Action, trAffic, spEcial, cUlture, cApture, fAmous…... Ví dụ:
prodÚction, invÉntion, attÉntion, attrÁction, trÁffic, econĨmic, characterÍstic, artÍfícial, espÉcially, musÍcian,
mathematÍcian, convÉnience, insuffÍcient, famÍliar, relÍgious, ambÍguous, agrÍculture, procÉdure, …...
Ngoại trừ: manURE / mə’njuə /

Lưu ý: - Nếu là Danh từ hay tính từ ghép 2 vần thì trọng âm ln rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất
Ví dụ: well-done(adj), housework

- Nếu từ mà có thêm tiền tố(thêm vào trước từ gốc) hoặc thêm Hậu tố(thêm vào sau từ gốc) thì cũng
khơng ảnh hưởng gì đến dấu nhấn của từ gôc
