Classroom Requirements
This course requires a classroom with a minimum of one computer for the
instructor and one for each student. Before class begins, install and configure all
computers by using the following information and instructions.
Computer Setup
Except where noted with instructor computer only, both the instructor and
student computers require the following hardware and software configuration.
Hardware Requirements
The following list of hardware is the required minimum. All hardware must be
on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for Microsoft

Classroom Configuration
This table lists computer names, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and domain
names to assign to classroom computers. In the IP addresses, z is the classroom
number. Set up the Instructor computer before setting up the student computers.

Before You Begin
You will need to do the following:

Read through all setup procedures.
!
Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials compact disc that is provided
with the course materials.

Estimated time to set up the classroom: 6 hours. Time will vary based
on the number of computers.

Computer Setup Procedures
Use the following instructions to set up classroom computers.

Set up the hardware
1. Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions. (For more
information on hardware, see “Hardware Requirements” earlier in this
section.)
2. Configure the hard disk as follows:
• Drive C: 4-GB formatted as FAT (file allocation table)

Install Windows 2000 Advanced Server

To increase the speed of installation, run SMARTDrive 5.0 or a later
version prior to running the Windows 2000 Server setup program. Smartdrv.exe
is a utility that ships with Microsoft MS-DOS version 6.22.

1. Insert the Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD in the CD-ROM
drive.
2. If Setup starts, skip to step 5.
3. Open an MS-DOS command prompt window.
4. Move to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM, type winnt and then press
ENTER. Windows 2000 Server files will be copied to the hard disk.
5. Install Windows 2000 Server, typing the correct information when
prompted. Use the parameters listed in the following table. Use defaults or
information that pertains to your computer or location.
When prompted by: Use:

Partition Install on the C drive.
File system Use NTFS.
Allow Windows 2000 to convert the drive to
NTFS from FAT.
Regional settings Enter your regional information.
Personalize your software Enter your name and the name of your
organization.
Product key Enter your product key, if required.
Licensing modes Per server; five concurrent connections.
Computer name Use

the instructor computer name for Instructor.

Use the student computers name for StudentXX,
where XX is the number of the student computer.
Administrator password Set to password
Windows 2000 components Add NNTP Service, found in the details for
Internet Information Services (IIS).
Date and time settings Use today’s date and time.
