TEACHER DIRECTIONS:

PART 1: SAY AND REPEAT DRILL
(Use LIST 1 for Level 1 learners or as a review for Levels 2-3 learners. Use LIST 2 for
Level 2-3)

Teacher says, “This/these is/are) (a) (name of picture).”
Teacher asks, “What is this/are these?”
Learner responds, “That is __________.” “Those are ________.”

EXAMPLE:
Teacher: This is a match. What is this?
Learner: That is a match.
Teacher: These are grapes. What are these?

Learner: Those are grapes.

PART 2: LEARNER DRILL
(Use LIST 1 for Level 1 learners or as a review for Levels 2-3 learners. Use list 2 for
Level 2-3)

After all names of words are practiced, learners practice with each other. A learner
points to a random picture and asks, “What is this?”

Respondent answers appropriately (e.g., “That is ____.”) and then takes a turn pointing
to a picture and asking, “What is this?”

(NOTE: Because of the number of terms in this unit that are included in the visual
dictionary, level 2 and 3 words from previous units are also included in this list.)
