The AFD above ground fiber distribution system provides access, storage and cable
management for passive outside plant fiber optic installations. The AFD houses custom
termination, termination/splice and slack storage panels for use as an above ground
fiber cross-connect system.
The AFD is a heavy-duty, weather-resistant cabinet providing superior cable manage-
ment and protection of fibers. The AFD is a single-sided cabinet designed to provide
front access for both splicing and terminating fibers.
The cabinets are quickly installed utilizing ADC's exclusive fiberglass mounting sleeve
system (FMS). Installed with a cover in an area where future growth is anticipated, the
FMS can be used to store cables until growth necessitates the installation of a cabinet.
When the anticipated growth occurs, simply replace the cover with the appropriate
adapter plate and mount the cabinet to the plate.
The cabinets may also be pole or wall mounted or installed onto a concrete pad.
Description
Features and Benefits
The AFD System

problem-free service life
• Positive door stop
- Prevents accidental closing and provides wind protection
• Industry standard latch with hasp for padlock provisions
- Door latches include built-in padlock hasp for additional security
• Available in light green or sand
- Aesthetically pleasing colors for pedestal and remote terminal applications
• Designed to meet Bellcore 487 and NEMA 4 specifications for durability
• Mounts to fiberglass mounting sleeve (FMS)
- FMS provides easy, quick installation with flexibility, excellent storage and protection of cables
• Pole mounting bracket available
- Allows cabinet to be mounted vertically on a pole
• Modular growth
- Consists of (9) mounting positions for modular placement of termination, termination/splice or slack
storage panels for network flexibility and growth
The Cabinet
• All front access cabinet
• Modular panels allow up to 72 terminations, using standard connectors, 144 terminations with LX.5
adapter/connectors
• Slack storage panel provides superior cable management while allowing a single length patch cord
to be used within the cabinet
The Panels
• Termination
- 12, 24, 36 and 48 termination panels available using standard connectors (24, 48, 72 and 96 using
LX.5 adapter/connectors)
- Equipped with factory connectorized OSP cable stubs in lengths up to 400 meters
• Termination/Splice
