Cruise into the Art-Zones. We offer adult arts edu-
cation and opportunities in nearly everything from
A-Z. Whether your preference is in the visual, liter-
ary, performing, or media art zones, we offer arts
experiences for the novice as well as the seasoned
professional. Our satellite sites are sprinkled
throughout the eastside in zones such as the BCC

This course will provide a continuation of calli-
graphic skills, as well as help the beginner to con-
tinue to develop skills. Designed to open up new
applications for personalized calligraphy, the
course will focus on enjoyable and creative projects
that develop and enhance skills. Also included will
be demonstration on flourishing and decorative
techniques to further enhance your work. The ba-
sic style of calligraphy will be italic but other styles

Children’s Book Illustration
Discover basic illustration techniques as well as a
variety of media commonly used in illustration. This
class is a combination of the history of children’s

Introduction to basic wheel throwing techniques.
Learn centering and tool use for shaping and alter-
ing thrown items. Simple forms, cylinders, bowls

Mime New!
Did you know that walking in place and getting
nowhere is an art form? This is a playful, structured,
and invaluable form through the arena of mime,
physical comedy, and clown theater. The course
will focus on general movement exercises, the
mime illusions, image work, and improvisation.
Aside from specific mime technique, the course will
cover communication through universal imagery,
and characterization through mime and clown rou-
tines. Class includes physical warm-ups, technique
instruction, and physical improvisation. Hand-outs
and discussion include: history of mime, follow-up
exercises, and reading and video list. One ticket to

Basic Broadcasting
If you love music and hate commercials - public
radio is for you. Learn the basics of public radio
broadcasting at BCC’s own radio station KBCS.
Course covers basic broadcasting tools - how to use
“the board,” cue up records and CDs, and an-
nounce music smoothly. Learn at a real public ra-
dio station - 24 hour jazz, folk, world, and blues.
You’ll also learn the FCC’s regulations for public
broadcasting. After the course you may apply for a
volunteer shift at KBCS. Tuition includes lab fees.
