Growing the Network Without Adding New Copper
Increased Market Demand for Telcom Services
Prevailing trends for more business lines, residential multi-lines, Internet access via dial-up modems
and ADSL/G.Lite modems, and CLEC demands for unbundled loops is creating tremendous demand
on the existing last mile copper network.
Impact to Incumbent Service Provider
Due to the sheer volume of demand for copper access network, coupled with an industry wide
shortage of qualified personnel, incumbent service providers are finding it increasingly difficult to
expediently satisfy basic service demand.
In an increasingly unregulated business environment, incumbent service providers are also finding it
difficult to justify the significant investment required to construct additional infrastructure in the
existing last mile copper network.
PUC Pressure
Many incumbent service providers are now coming under harsh criticism from state PUCs for
customer complaints related to satisfying demand for additional basic telephone service. Service
providers need a cost-effective and rapid-response solution that enables them to profitably satisfy
customer demand while also creating additional capacity in the copper plant.
Solution: ADC’s PG-Flex
Plus
The PG-Flex
Plus
family of products enable incumbent service providers to quickly place multiple
phone lines over a single copper pair. These products are line-powered, environmentally hardened
and have the modularity to provide copper pair facility relief in the feeder network, the distribution
network, and/or at the customer drop. PG-Flex
Plus
can be installed and turned up for service within
hours as opposed to weeks.

line-powered PG-Flex (24, 48 or 96 lines) remote may be used.
The remote unit may be placed at the crossbox or remote cabinet, while the corresponding COT unit may
be placed at the central office. PG-Flex
