It’s inevitable – batteries die. Worst case – they die when you need them the most. Though many
VRLA batteries have an expected life of 10 years, they can fail in as little as two.
If you’re responsible for cell site or switching center operations, you know that dependable battery
back-up power supplies are critical. While VRLA battery life-cycle maintenance can be both costly and
daunting, unreliable back-up systems can affect service quality, customer satisfaction and revenue.

ADC starts with planning that includes comprehensive site audits following carrier-specific
methodologies. These audits include:
• Visual internal and external inspections
• Drawings of site floor plans detailing the location and dimensions of all power equipment,
internal grounding, cable racking, rectifiers, batteries and AC service panels
• Ground resistance testing

Based on the results, ADC develops detailed reports and recommendations that include customer and
manufacturer methods of procedures for ongoing preventive maintenance. These procedures address
essential areas such as power plant and battery maintenance, grounding, safety and alarming. ADC

offers specific services for the power plant which include services for:
• Power bays
- Load sharing verification
- Distribution position availability tracking for future loads
- Alarm verification
• Batteries
- Internal conductance and/or load testing on all cells including flooded and valve regulated types
- Checking and recording plant load, voltage and recharge capability, including calibration of the
digital or analog meter if available
- Inspection and maintenance of battery covers, electrolyte levels, crystallization, leakage, corrosion
- Specific gravity measurement
- Checking and recording torque value of all battery connections
- Capacity verification
• Battery installation and replacement, including coordination of battery disposal in accordance
with applicable EPA regulations
• Power distribution installation and upgrades
