Competences: - Introducing people. - Making and responding to introduction. 3.Skills: - Speaking: make and respond to introductions. - Listening: listen to momologues/ dialogues within 100- 120 words for general or detailed information. - Reading: read passages within 150-180 words for general or detailed information. - Writing: write an exposition of 80-100 words from picture and word cues. 4. Grammar: - Past simple: regular and irregular verbs. - To talk about a past action or event that is finished - Used to (review) - Past simple with wish 5. Vocabulary: - words to describe the geography of a country: climates, population, religions, languages, social customs, habits. II. Unit plan: Unit 1: A visit from penpal (6 periods) Period 1 : Getting started- Listen and read Period 2: Speak Period 3: Listen Period 4: Read Period 5: Write Period 6: Language focus.

Knowledges + The aims: - Read the text for details about places Lan went to with her foreign friends and activities they took part in. - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to know more about some places Lan went to with a foreign friend and some activities they took part in. + Vocabulary: correspond, impress, depend on, pray, friendliness, mosque. + Structure: S + wish(es) (that) + clause ( be- were / past tense) Write activities, interesting places which ss know or are on holiday. 2. Skills : - Practice the comprehension reading skill, writing and speaking skill. 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice reading for details, doing some exercises and use S + wish(es) (that) + clause ( be- were / past tense) B. Preparations 1.Teacher : posters, computer, speaker, projector, tablets 2. Students: Unit 1 Period 1 Getting started, listen and read. C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Rub out and remember, open prediction, multiple choice, comprehension questions, word cue drill. D. Warmer: ( 3 minutes) Teacher’s activities *Getting started : - Run through the pictures - Give instructions - Ask ss to look at 6 pictures on page 6 and other interesting places in Viet Nam , talk about the activities and places they are going to visit or do with with her/his penpal.. New lesson: Teacher’s activities Step 1: Pre - reading (10’) - Today, we are going to read about some places LAN went to with a foreign friend and some activities they took part in together. Let's start with some new words. 1. Vocabulary: 1.(explanation) if two people correspond, they regularly write to each other. 2.(explanation) admiring some one or something very much . 3. example 4. ( mine ) 5. translation 6. Students’activities - Listen, guess, repeat and copy - Listen, repeat. - Read in chorus - read individually Read and remember the word Write individually one by one - Look at the board. -Listen. Checking vocabulary: R.O.R - Each time you rub out an English word, point to the Vietnamese translation and ask “what’s this in English?” - When all the English words are rubbed out, Remind the teacher’s instructions. go through the Vietnamese list and get student to call the English words. - If there is time, get students to come to the board and write the English words again. 2. Open prediction - Set the scene: - Draw 2 pictures of Lan and Maryam. Lan Maryam Give instructions : Lan’s penpal comes from Malaysia. Her name’s Maryam. She came to visit Lan last week. Lan took her to some places in Ha Noi. Now you have to predict “Which places did they visit?” What are you going to do now?.

While- reading ( 18 minutes) - Ask ss to open the books , read the on page 6-7 and check their prediction - Give feedback: ask ss to give their ideas *Multiple choice - Run through the exercise on page 7 - Ask ss to read the text again and do the exercise in pairs - Give feedback: ask ss to give their ideas * Comprehension questions: - give some questions and run through them. - Ask ss to read the text again and answer the questions - Ask ss to compare with their partners and give feedback. 3.Post- reading ( 10 minutes) * Model sentences: - Elicit from ss to give the model and explain it What does this sentence mean? What is it formed?. They are waiting for Lan outside her school. - Run through the dialogue between Nga and Maryam in the box - Ask ss to put their dialogue in the correct order. - Give feedback. - Ask ss some questions to check ss’ understanding: +Have Nga and Maryam met each other before? + Is maryam enjoying her stay in Hanoi? + What does she like in Vietnam? 2.While- speaking (20 minutes) *Mapped dialogue: - elicit from ss and give a mapped dialogue. - listen - T-WC - work in pairs - The dialogue can be: A (1): Hello. You must be Maryam. B (c): That’s right, I am. A(5): Pleased to meet you. Let me introduce myself. I’m nga. A (b): Pleased to meet you, Nga.Are you one of Lan’s classmates?
