Distinguish sounds /f/ and /v/.
• /f/: voiceless sound, we put a sheet in front
of our mouth, when pronouncing /f/, the
sheet will be moved.

• /v/: voiced sound, we put a sheet in front of
our mouth, when pronouncing /f/, the sheet
will not be moved.

Articles A/an and The
Definition:
A/an and The are articles. They are a type of determiner and they go
before a noun.
 Indefinite articles: A/ an before a noun shows that what is referred
to is not already known to the speaker, listener, writer and/or reader
(it is the indefinite article):

 Definite article: The before a noun shows that what is referred to is
already known to the speaker, listener, writer and/or reader.
The makes a noun specific.
EX:
- Where did we park the car? (The speaker and the listener know what
car is being referred to.)
- We had to paint the apartment before we sold it. (The speaker and
the listener know what apartment is being referred to.)


The usage

Indefinite articles: A/ an.
- We only use a/ an with singular countable nouns: food, dinner,
lunch.
Definite article: The
- Before countable nouns and uncountable nouns.
- Before the only objects: The sun, the moon…
- Before superlative: The most
- Before a musical instrument: The guitar, …
- Before places:

River: The Amazon, The Mekong river…
Canal, lake: The Panama Canal, The Nile…

- Don’t use articles in cases below:
+ Before street, city, country (Singular), park, continent,
peaks, lake: Le Loi street, HCM city, Japan, Sai Gon zoo, Asian,
Everest, Hoan Kiem lake...
+ Before sports: soccer, football, volleyball,…
+ Before a noun with a meaning of purpose:
Ex: - Go to the school (for another purpose, not only for studying).
Go to school (only for studying)
- Go to the hospital (not only for health examination, but also for
visiting the sick)
