I.

Phrases of concession ( Cụm từ chỉ sự
nhượng bộ)
Thường bắt đầu bởi 2 giới từ In spite of hoặc
Despite

In spite of/ Despite + Noun/Noun Phrase/ V-ing
Eg: In spite of staying up late, Hoa gets up early
and goes to school on time.
He still came to her house yesterday despite the
heavy rain.
*Note: Dispite/ In spite of có thể đứng giữa câu,
đứng trước hoặc sau mệnh đề chính.

II. Adverbial clauses of concession ( Mệnh đề
trạng ngữ chỉ sự nhượng bộ)
Là mệnh đề phụ chỉ sự tương phản của hai thành động
trong câu. Mệnh đề thường bắt đầu với Although, though,
even though, no matter, whatever (cho dù,dù)

Although/ though/ even though + S

+ V

Eg: We enjoyed our camping holiday although it
rained every day.
We decided to buy the house even though we
didn’t really have enough money.

No matter + who/what/when/why/how(adj,adv) + S +V
Whatever (+N) + S +V
Eg:

No matter who telephones, say I’m out.
No matter what you say, I won’t believe you.

Note:
- No matter how= however
No matter what = whatever
No matter where = wherever
No matter when = whenever
No matter what = whatever
No matter which = whichever
No matter who = whoever
- Cấu trúc riêng của how :
No matter how (however) + adj/ adv + S +V , clause
- Trong Anh ngữ đàm thoại ta thường để though ở cuối
câu:
- Even though mang nghĩa mạnh hơn although:
- Chúng ta có thể sử dụng in spite of và despite với
với một mệnh đề bao gồm cả chủ ngữ và vị ngữ nếu
như sử dụng “the fact that”.

Eg:
