Dear Mary,
How are you? I must write to tell you about the natural disaster I saw on TV this morning. It was a huge tsunami in
Japan two days ago. At first, there was a very strong earthquake, and then the tsunami swept through the coastal
areas of northern Japan.
It was so devastating. What used to be busy and lively cities now has become a vast area of debris. Houses were
totally destroyed, and pieces of furniture and means of transport were scattered everywhere. Luckily, thanks to early
warning, there was no human loss. I felt terrible.
I intend to donate some of my pocket money to help the Japanese people.
Would you like to join me?
Love

Many people think that the invention of the Internet has changed people’s life.
In 80-100 words, write about the ways you think the Internet has changed people’s life.
You can use the following cues:
- People communicate via the internet: faster and cheaper

- Students change the way they study: read online sources, send homework via email…
- People entertain in a different way: online music, films, games …

Key:
I think the Internet has changed our life in many ways (and for the better). First, thanks to the Internet, we can
communicate with friends and relatives very easily and comfortably. We may make on-line calls or chat with them
using Facebook or other applications. (These are not only convenient but also cheaper). Second, the way students
study has also changed. Students now can read online. They can send their assignments to their teachers by
emails. Teachers can also give feedback online using special applications. Furthermore, the way we entertain has
also changed considerably. We can now see films online, listen to music on Youtube, play games online. In
conclusion, we are grateful to the Internet inventor because our life has become more comfortable than ever thanks
to the use of the Internet.

3. Your school is holding a writing competition about English speaking countries. Now write a paragraph
(80-100 words) to describe one country you like best.
You should mention:
- The name of the country
- Its special features
- The reasons why you like it best

Key:
I like Australia best among the English speaking countries. Australia is the smallest continent in the world. It is also
the 6th largest country in the world. There are over 20 million people living in Australia. Australia is divided into six
states and two territories. The capital city is Canberra, which is in the Australian Capital Territory. I have always
wanted to visit Australia so that I can see the Sydney Opera house with my own eyes and touch the kangaroos with
my own hands. Australia is the destination of my dream.

Hi Adam,

Hi Adam,
Teenagers in Viet Nam use the Internet for many things. In learning, the Internet helps us to find information for our
presentation. We find a lot of interesting ideas and beautiful pictures to make our presentation more impressive.
After school, the Internet gives us lots of games for entertainment. I myself like English interactive games on the
Internet. In communication, the Internet helps us to keep in touch with friends and maintain our relationships. We
love the Internet. What about in the US?
Write and let me know.
5. Write an imaginary report (100-120 words) of your encounter with an unidentified flying object (UFO).
You should write about:
- When you saw it
- What it looked like
- If it had any effects on you or the surrounding
- How you felt about it

Key:
It was late at night. I woke up to go to the toilet. As I was going back to bed, I looked out of the window and couldn’t
believe my eyes! Shining brightly over the park at the back of my house was something that looked like a giant
submarine. I don’t remember the exact color of the object, but I think it is silver or metallic. It was hovering and a
beam of light was scanning the park and the neighborhood as if it was taking pictures of everything. Maybe it was
collecting samples of Earth substances. My heart beat faster and I almost couldn’t breathe. I was terrified. After a
minute or so, the whole thing disappeared as if it had never been there.

6. Write a paragraph about a fairy tale you have read. Write 80-100 words.
You should write about:
- What the story is about
- Who the main characters in the story are

- What happened in the story
- What the meaning of the story is

Key:
It is a fable about a goose that laid golden eggs. There are three main characters: the goose, the man and his wife.
A man and his wife owned a very special goose. Every day the goose would lay a golden egg. One day, the man’s
wife said that if they could have all the golden eggs inside the goose, they could be richer much faster. The man
agreed with the idea. Then the couple killed the goose and cut her open. But the goose had no golden eggs inside
her at all. The fable tells us not to be greedy and to think before we act.

No one knows exactly when and how the “Li xi” custom began. The custom has been and will always be popular

The festival is very cultural. It is joined by thousands of actors, dancers, singers, musicians and students. Each year,
Ha Long Carnival has a different theme which honors traditional and natural values of Ha Long Bay as well as the
achievements of tourism in Ha Long.
I strongly recommend you go there to enjoy the festival.
