UNIT 5: THE MEDIA
LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED – LISTEN AND READ
I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to know the information
about “The Media”.
II. PREPARATIONS: Textbook, computer
III. PROCEDURES:
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
1/ Warm up : (7’)
- Hang the pictures on the board and ask Ss to match
the activity with correct picture.

- Lead to the lesson: The Media.
2/ Presentation: (15’)
- Use the pictures, real object to explain the meaning of
them.
II. Listen and read:
1. Vocabulary:
 media (n): phương tiện truyền thông
 benefit(n)=advantage(n)
 crier (n): người đi rao tin
 channel (n): kênh
 shout (v): la, rao
 interactive (adj) : tương tác
 variety(n): sự đa dạng
 convenient (a): thuận lợi


- Ask Ss to read the new words in chorus and
individually. Call some bad Ss to read new words.
- Check vocabulary: Matching
3/ Practice: (15’)
 Activity 1:
- Ask Ss to listen and read the passage silently and
complete the table in pairs.
- Get feedback.

STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES

- Ask Ss to make some sentences. (Bad Ss)

5/ Homework: (2’)
- Have Ss:
+ Do task a &b in notebook again;
+ Learn by heart vocabulary and “Grammar”;
+ Prepare for next period: Speak and listen;
+ Make three sentences with “like, love, dislike”.

LESSON 2: SPEAK - LISTEN
I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to express their opinion about
something and listen to understand the history of some Media.
II. PREPARATIONS: Textbook, pictures, cassettes
III. PROCEDURES:
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
1/Warm up : (7’)
Chatting
- Ask Ss to answer the questions:
What is your favorite type of Media? Why
- Remark and choose the winner.
- Lead to the lesson
2/Pre-speaking: (18’)
- Present some new words.
- Let Ss read the new words in chorus and
individually.
I. New words:
 Violent (a): bạo lực
 documentary (n): phim tài liệu
 informative (adj): có nhiều thơng tin
 a major force (n): lực lượng chính
 telegraph (n): máy điện tín
 journalism (n): nhà báo
 invent (v): phát minh
 appear (v): xuất hiện
 guess (v): đoán
- Check new words: R.O.R
- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue.

Lien : You don’t like sport, do you?
Trung : Yes. Some sports are violent. I prefer
documentary. You like it, don’t you?
Lien : No. Documentaries are quite boring. I
prefer watching news. It’s very ìnormative.
- Introduce the tag- questions.

3/ While-speaking: (10’)
- Ask Ss to look at the table and make similar
dialogues to talk about the programs you like and

dislike.
Lien : You don’t like sport, do you?
Trung : Yes. Some sports are violent. I prefer
documentary. You like it, don’t you?
Lien : No. Documentaries are quite boring. I
prefer watching news. It’s very informative.
- Call on some pairs to practice in front of class.
- Correct mistakes.
4/Post-speaking: (10’)
- Ask Ss to guess the information, and then turn on
the tape. (2 or 3 times)
- Ask them to exchange their answer to compare.
- Call on four Ss to write their answers on the
board.
- Turn on the tape again and check their answers.

5/ Homework:
- Have Ss:
+ Learn by heart new words, and structure.
+ Prepare section Read.

- Work in pairs; use the cues to
make similar dialogue.
