ABSTRACT
Salinity intrusion is one of the major problems that the Sai Gon
Dong Nai
river is facing. It would increase in the future due to sea level rise and upstream flow
decline. In this study, salinity intrusion in Sai Gon river was simulated by using
TELEMAC2D under climate change and upstream flow reduction scenarios. The
overall objective of the thesis is to create a scientific basis for the study of the
application of information technology, the saltwater intrusion model into the
management of the existing as well as the expected irrigation system, for the purpose
of salinity prevention, environmental protection and minimize impacts caused by
saltwater intrusion. The specific objectives of the thesis are:
Research and application of Telemac2D numerical model to simulate
substance spreading problems. Specifically, the problem of saltwater intrusion in the
Sai Gon - Dong Nai basin, thereby to control salinity in the raw water pump station in
Hoa Phu (belonging to Tan Hiep water plant) and to identify the level of salt reduction
at the intake position with water discharge scenarios from Dau Tieng Lake.
To evaluate changes, the ability to push the salt of Dau Tieng Lake in the case
of climate change taking into account sea level rise.
The results are:
Saline control by discharging from Dau Tieng lake to push the salt.
With climate change scenarios and sea level rise of 0.5 m: It is effective to control
saline water at the plant but it is more difficult, time consuming and discharge in
comparison to sea level that does not rise.
With climate change scenarios and sea level rise of 1.0 meter: pushing salt for
Tan Hiep water plant will no longer be effective, it is needed to research other
solutions to reduce saltwater intrusion like tide sluices ....
