Reading Tarot

History of Tarot

Dating back to the 15th century, people
have used Tarot cards to gain insight into
what the future holds. Tarot cards were
invented in Italy, originally used for game
playing, fortune telling at parties, and
among friends. Today, their fortune telling
properties are more popular than ever.

Like then, modern-day Tarot card readers
use the deck as a tool to divine upcoming
events. These cards are used as a modality
to predict a near-future outcome (1-3
weeks time), debunking a common myth
that tarot can predict your entire future.

Tarot’s power and meaning comes from a combination of astrological
symbols, universal energies, and the subject’s individual experience as a
part of the larger cosmos.

How to read Tarot
How to prepare for your reading
Anyone can use Tarot cards. Before pulling cards to read, clear your head for one hour. The cards can be swayed by your energy,
so remaining neutral helps reduce the influence that your emotions would have on the reading. Leave your ego at the door and
be clear with what you or the person you are reading for want the cards to answer.
Let’s get started…

Take a deep breath and say:

3 card Tarot spread:

Reading:

"Cards, please tell me what I need
to know right now".

Shuffle your cards at least 3 times
and cut* the deck once.

Flip each card from left to right.

Pull 3 cards from the top of the
deck.
Lay the cards face down in front of
you from left to right.
*Split the deck into two piles, then stack
them.

Read the cards, left to right, as
past, present, and future.
As a rule of thumb, a card being
upside-down represents a reversal
of its normal meaning.

About the

Major Arcana

What is the Major Arcana?
The cards of the Major Arcana represent
major lessons and changes within the
cycles of life. Think of these 22
numbered cards as the lead actors in a
play - containing the largest meanings
and secrets in the deck. The meanings
of these cards can stand alone, yet are
most insightful when read as a 3-card
pull.

Numbered 0-21, these 22 cards are
named after powerful characters or
ideas that signify the journey and stages
in an individual’s life. These cards should
help you understand an overarching
moment of transformation.

Major Arcana

O. The Fool
The first card of the Major Arcana depicts a young man on an edge, naively
and innocently staring up as he takes his next step - unaware that he may fall
into the unknown.
The mountains, typically in the background of the image, symbolize the

challenges the Fool will face. Although these mountains are a constant, the
Fool is unphased as he begins his journey. The Fool carries a backpack or
bindle, representing a lack of material need.

Google Product: Ultra Wide Camera
Capture a scene in its entirety with Pixel 6’s ultrawide camera lens.
We paired the Fool with the Ultra Wide Camera to represent the wide-eyed
optimism he represents in the Tarot.

Major Arcana

I. The Magician
Typically situated over a workbench with tools of his trade (often the suits of
the Minor Arcana), the Magician holds one hand towards the cosmos and the
other pointed towards earth, representing the connection between the two.
This connection gives him the power to manifest his goals (universal energy)
in the physical realm (earth). He is able to turn energy into matter with the
tools and abilities to make his intentions a reality.

Google Product: Magic Eraser
Magic Eraser lets you instantly remove background objects - including
photobombers - from a picture, so that you can take even better selfies.
This pair conveys how the Magic Eraser lets you instantly turn your desire for
clearer photographs into a reality.

Major Arcana

II. The High Priestess

The High Priestess’ robe and a crown symbolizes her divine knowledge, as
well as her intuitive and psychic connection to the universe.
Her two wands, altered from what are typically two pillars she sits between,
represent how the High Priestess’ knowledge and intuition are only
accessible to those who have accepted the duality of all things.

Google Product: Material You
Pixel’s Material You user interface lets you choose what appears on your
home screen and how it all looks to better fit your needs and style.
We paired the intuitive new user interface with the card representing
intuition.

Major Arcana

III. The Empress
The Empress symbolizes fertility and motherhood, and is often depicted as
pregnant. Representing creativity, she also provides the nourishment and
security that new ideas need to develop.

Google Product: Portrait Mode
Pixel 6’s Portrait Mode helps people capture professional-quality portraits,
with soft lighting and focus, on their phones, on their own.
Everybody using Pixel is capable of coming up with new and creative ideas,
so Portrait Mode essentially casts you in the role of the Empress.

Major Arcana

IV. The Emperor

As a divine match with the Empress, the Emperor’s power and stability
compliment her life-bringing.
In our illustration, the Emperor’s umbrella represents how he is protected
from the storm around him, and determined to have his way in the world.

Google Product: Durable Display
The Pixel 6’s strongest screen yet is more resistant to cracks, scratches, and
other wear-and-tear.
The Emperor’s symbol of protection and stability is matched by Pixel 6’s
durable screen.

Major Arcana

V. The Hierophant
This card is the divine match of the High Priestess.
As a spiritual teacher, The Hierophant represents a path towards balancing
the conscious and subconscious minds to unlock secrets of life. His
presence should come as both affirmation and inspiration.

Google Product: Titan M2
The Titan M chip handles your most sensitive processes and information,
such as passcode protection, encryption, and secure transactions in apps.
Titan M2 looks over your private information’s well-being, in a way similar to
how the Hierophant looks over your spiritual well-being.

Major Arcana

VI. The Lovers

One of the more literal cards of the Major Arcana, The Lovers symbolizes
attraction, divine union, and desire for growth through a relationship.
Flowers and leaves, apparent in many depictions of this card, represent a
state of blossoming.

Google Product: Google Duo
Google Duo lets Pixel users make free, high-quality video calls across
Android and iOS phones, tablets, computers, and smart displays.
We paired The Lovers with Duo, which lets you communicate clearly with the
people in life you love most.

Major Arcana

VII. The Chariot
The Chariot depicts a rider in control of two different forces - typically
represented by two horses or sphinxes - here represented by the two wheels
of a bicycle.
While the two forces might want to go in different directions, the Chariot’s
driver keeps them focused on a single goal worth pursuing.

Google Product: Motion Mode
Keep your action shots in focus with Motion Blur mode on Pixel’s camera.
Just as the Chariot represents clarity despite motion, Motion Mode helps you
maintain the focus of busy photographs.

Major Arcana

VIII. Strength

Another of the Major Arcana’s more literal cards, Strength is a symbol of
power, energy, courage, and control.
Typically depicting a woman holding open the jaws of a lion, our card shows
resilience in the form of a man holding the weight of two worlds over his
head.

Google Product: Live Translate
Instantly understand text and speech from 11 different languages in your own
native tongue.
The ability to understand multiple languages represents a strength of its own,
opening up new opportunities.

Major Arcana

IX. The Hermit
The Hermit is a singular figure representing introspection and a sense of
inner knowing that provides heightened awareness.
A source of light - the moon, often a lantern - symbolizes a path ahead for
the Hermit, but one they have yet to follow.

Google Product: Flip to Shhh
Place your phone screen-down to silence notifications. Perfect for when you
need to focus on work, or just some you time.
As the Hermit represents introspection, Flip to Shhh gives you the chance to
disconnect from the world for a bit.

Major Arcana

X. Wheel of Fortune
As the tenth card of the Major Arcana, the Wheel of Fortune represents the
end of a karmic cycle or the reaching of a destiny. Pulling this card is a sign
that the subject should prepare for a change of fortunes.
Our ferris wheel, like most wheels, reveals that your place on the cycle is
never set in stone.

Google Product: Pixel Stand
The Google Pixel Stand lets you check the weather or your schedule, hear
your favorite tunes, or display your best pics, all while recharging your Pixel.
Just as the Wheel of Fortune represents a transition, the Pixel Stand
transforms your phone into a smart home hub.

Major Arcana

XI. Justice
The scales of Justice represents fairness, karma, and a great good balancing
itself.

Google Product: Real Tone
Changes to the Pixel 6’s camera software helps it take pictures of people
with darker skin that doesn’t blowout or desaturate their natural beauty.
We believe that Real Tone helps make photography more fair and equitable
to everybody using it.

Major Arcana

XII. The Hanged Man

Traditionally depicting a man hanging upside down from a tree by a rope tied
around his foot, the Hanged Man symbolizes suspended reality. Despite his
position, he is often depicted as calm and contented, representing a wisdom
gained from this trial.
In our interpretation, a phone suspended by a cord is regarded with the
same lack of risk as it hangs, literally paused in the air.

Google Product: Hold For Me
Have Google Assistant listen to repetitive hold music for you. It’ll let you know
when a human is finally on the other end of the line.
Just as the Hanged Man represents a pause or suspension, Hold For Me lets
you easily navigate a required pause to activity.

Major Arcana

XIII. Death
Usually depicting the Grim Reaper, our interpretation instead shows a
woman in mourning over her dying phone.
Despite its ominous sounding name, the 13th card of the Major Arcana
represents mostly metaphorical death - the end of something old to make
room for something new.

Google Product: Adaptive Battery
Pixel’s adaptive battery is designed to learn which apps you prioritize to
extend the life of your phone to over 24-hours, even on 5G.
Adaptive Battery constantly learns and changes to allow you new and longer
opportunities to use your Pixel.

Major Arcana

XIV. Temperance
Temperance is almost always depicted as an angel pouring water from one
cup into another - a traditional symbol of the cardinal virtue this card is
named for.
Our subject instead finds balance and moderation between two modern
temptations - the desire to connect via one’s phone, or unwind and
disconnect with a book.

Google Product: Digital Wellbeing
Pixel’s suite of Digital Wellbeing features help you better understand your
tech use, disconnect when you want, and create healthy habits.
These features help you moderate your phone use and practice Temperance
in your everyday life.

Major Arcana

XV. The Devil

to bring anyone under The Devil’s spell, and encourage them to indulge those
desires.

dangers.
Pixel’s Anti-Malware features protect you from the various digital Devils you

Major Arcana

XVI. The Tower
The Tower represents a time of crisis, when everything is falling apart. The
Tower’s constructions seems solid, but a single moment can cause the entire
thing to topple over.
The Tower collapses from the top, symbolizing how the crisis it tells of
originates with the universe above and makes its way down through the
subject’s head or mental space.

Google Product: Security Hub
The Security hub combines security settings from your device, apps, and
Google Account. It provides users with a comprehensive security checkup
and quick ways to fix common issues.
The Security Hub protects your device from a variety of possible crises.
