Conference Agenda
Faces

The Goals of the Consumer
Conference are:
To educate mental health consumers,
families and healthcare providers residing
in Chicago and Cook County regarding

the reality of recovery from serious
mental illnesses, through inspiring role
models sharing personal stories of
recovery, and through experiential
workshops conducted by persons in
recovery that demonstrate how the arts
have helped them to move forward in
recovery.
To educate mental health consumers,
families and healthcare providers about
community organizations/resources,
including grassroots fine arts
collaborative, disability advocacy and the
arts groups, performance or arts-related
mental health organizations, through
educational workshops, exhibitor tables,
and presentations.
To share experiences and examples of
how "art heals”-art is a natural part of
recovery and self-expression.
To demonstrate how the opportunity
to create something beautiful is
intrinsically healing; to promote selfexpression, enjoyment, a new and
empowered sense of identity as a creator,
challenge
devalued former identities
