MATERIAL HANDLING EQUIPMENT
UNIT 11
MATERIAL HANDLING EQUIPMENT
1. At Turner Manufacturing, employee safety is a top priority. Our policies
2. are base on safe and efficient material handling methods.
3. Choose the right equipment for the job. First, consider the physical
4. characteristics of the material to be moved. These include: size,
5. weight, shape, risk of damage, and condition.
6. Before pickup, consider the distance and intensity of your load.
7. Select the correct equipment from the four general categories:
8. simple handling
9. complex handling
10. simple travel
11. complex travel
12. Operate only equipment that you have been trained to use. Safety
13. training for simple equipment use is provided for all employees. Only
14. trained employees are permitted access to complex equipment
15. controls. Inspect all equipment before use it do confirm safe
16. operating condition. If there is damage or a problem do not use it.
17. Mark it “out of service” and report it to your supervisor.
18. Check for safety and suitability once more before set-down.

PART 5: Listening
Listen and read the mutual excerpt again.
When should employees check safety
conditions when moving materials?
Answer: Employees should be aware of safety at
all times. They are advised to check safety
conditions before pickup and before set-down.
