Class 10 Twelve boys and eighteen girls. All are from country. They are
different in level. Most of them had actually studied English 7
program at secondary school, but were classed as “beginners”
when they came to high school.
Time: 45’
Timetable fit The class is using “English 10”book.At the moment we are on
unit 9 Reading (introduction of knowledge about the oceans and
the undersea world, vocabulary related to undersea world.
Revision of the past simple tense, the present perfect tense, the
present continuous tense, the present simple tense).
Aims By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
- (1) guess the meaning of words based on contexts and
components of words
- (2) scan for specific information
- (3) use vocabulary items related to the undersea world to
read and talk about the topic.
- (4)get knowledge about the oceans and the undersea world
- (5) get speaking skill: talk in pairs, in groups
- (6) get Reading comprehension skill: Better Ss' reading skill
through vocabulary Matching
Assessment - Check (2) by asking them to write down answers of task1
&2 (80% is acceptable)
- Check (3) by asking them to do task after you read (80% is
acceptable)
Anticipated
problems
Ss may not know much about the marine life and related
vocabulary, so T should be ready to give explanation

Setting the scene:
-Ss are going to read a passage about undersea
world. Read it and then do the tasks that follow.
Task 1: gap filling based on word meaning
guessing.
Instruction: the words in the box all appear in

the passage. Fill in each blank with one of them.
There are more words than needed.
-asks Ss to read the passage quickly and stop at
the lines that contain words appearing in box to
guess their meanings.
- guess the meanings of the words in the box
based on the contexts in the sentences and the
components of words.
- T checks that Ss understand the words
correctly by asking them to provide the
Vietnamese equivalents to the words.

Eg: in question 1, Ss can underline what
percentage, earth’s surface, covered, seas
and oceans.
 Decide what information they need to
find in the context
 Look for the question words like “what
percentage” which indicates Ss should
read for specific things like a number
+ (2) go back to the first question and locate the
information for the question by finding the key
words in the passage and underline the place.
+ (3) read the part carefully to find answers. Ss
can use their own words.
+ (4) continue with the rest of the question
- asks Ss to work individually to do the task
- then T asks Ss to discuss their answers with
