KSV PD 100
Interfacial Elasticity
– Pulsating Drop Module
• Stability of emulsions and foams
• Adsorption and competition of
surfactants, proteins or
polymers at interfaces
• Rheological characteristics
of interfaces
• Controlled compression
or dilation of an area of
an interface (sinusoidal,
ramp, step, saw tooth)
• Wide frequency range
of perturbation
• Small liquid volume
KSV PD 100 is an optional module for the KSV’s
CAM 200 Surface tension/Contact angle meter.
The module enables determination of rheological
characteristics of interfacial layers.
The viscoelasticity of an interface is measured by
inducing a small controlled perturbation to a pendant
drop (or bubble) volume and simultaneously recording
the response of the interfacial tension and the drop
area. If the interfacial deformation is sinusoidal the
interfacial elasticity and viscosity can easily be
determined from the phase shift of the interfacial
tension and area response.
