I. Lí thuyết: Câu điều kiện loại 0, 1, 2, 3, hỗn hợp. Đảo ngữ câu điều kiện
1. Câu điều kiện là gì?
– Câu điều kiện (Conditional sentence) là loại câu trong tiếng Anh được sử dụng để miêu tả
một tình huống có điều kiện. Câu điều kiện thường bao gồm hai phần chính:
+ Mệnh đề if (if-clause) hay mệnh đề điều kiện.
+ Mệnh đề chính (main clause) cịn được gọi là mệnh đề kết quả (result clause).
– Mệnh đề if dùng để miêu tả điều kiện để có được kết quả, thường bắt đầu bằng từ “if” (nếu)
hoặc “unless” (nếu... khơng). Ví dụ: “If it rains, I will stay at home.” (Nếu trời mưa, tôi sẽ ở
nhà.)
– Lưu ý:
(1) Nếu dùng “if” thì mệnh đề chính có thể chia ở dạng khẳng định hoặc phủ định. Cịn nếu dùng
“unless” thì mệnh đề chính chỉ được chia ở thể khẳng định nhưng mang nghĩa phủ định.
+ Ví dụ: “Unless Anna had walked in the rain yesterday, she would not have been sick.”
= “If Anna had not walk in the rain yesterday, she would not have been sick.”
(Nếu Anna không đi bộ dưới cơn mưa vào hôm qua, cô ấy đã không bị ốm.)
(2) Mệnh đề if và mệnh đề chính có thể đổi vị trí cho nhau.
+ Ví dụ: If you don’t do your homework, you will be penalized(1) by the teacher.
= You will be penalized by the teacher if you don’t do your homework.
2. Câu điều kiện loại 0 (Conditional sentence type 0)
– Câu điều kiện loại 0 được dùng để diễn tả một sự thật hiển nhiên (có thể là về thế giới, tự
nhiên,…) hoặc mang tính khoa học, một chân lý, hoặc thói quen sẽ xảy ra khi điều kiện được đề
cập tới xảy ra trước.
– Cơng thức:
If/When + thì Hiện tại đơn (Mệnh đề if), thì Hiện tại đơn (Mệnh đề chính).
– Ví dụ:
+ If Jenny gets up, she brushes her teeth first. (Nếu Jenny thức dậy, cô ấy đánh răng trước tiên.)
+ When it’s cold, I usually don’t leave the house. (Khi trời lạnh, tôi thường không ra khỏi nhà.)
3. Câu điều kiện loại 1 (Conditional sentence type 1)
– Câu điều kiện loại 1 là dạng câu dùng để đặt ra một điều kiện có thể có thật ở hiện tại hoặc
tương lai với kết quả có thể xảy ra.

– Cơng thức:
If/Unless + thì Hiện tại đơn (Mệnh đề if), S + will/shall/can/may + V-inf (Mệnh đề chính).

– Ví dụ: If I get up early in the morning, I will go to school on time. (Nếu tôi dậy sớm vào buổi
sáng, tôi sẽ đến trường đúng giờ.)
4. Câu điều kiện loại 2 (Conditional sentence type 2)
– Câu điều kiện loại 2 là loại câu dùng để nói về điều kiện khơng có thật, hoặc trái với thực tế ở
hiện tại.
– Cơng thức:
If/Unless + thì Q khứ đơn (Mệnh đề if), S + would/could + V-inf (Mệnh đề chính).
– Ví dụ: Pete could buy this laptop if he had more money. (Pete có thể sẽ mua chiếc laptop này
nếu anh ấy có nhiều tiền hơn.)
– Lưu ý:
(1) Động từ “to be” ở mệnh đề if luôn được chia là were ở tất cả các ngôi.
(2) Trong mệnh đề chính, would/wouldn’t được dùng để giả định chung chung một kết quả trái
ngược với hiện tại còn could/ couldn’t được dùng để nhấn mạnh giả thiết về khả năng (có thể
hay khơng thể làm gì) trái ngược với hiện tại.
(3) Ngồi would và could, chúng ta có thể sử dụng các trợ động từ khác như might, should, had
to, ought to trong mệnh đề chính của câu điều kiện loại 2.
5. Câu điều kiện loại 3 (Conditional sentence type 3)
– Câu điều kiện loại 3 được sử dụng để diễn tả một hành động, sự việc đã không xảy ra trong
q khứ bởi điều kiện nói tới đã khơng xảy ra.
– Cơng thức:
If/Unless + thì QKHT(2) (Mệnh đề if), S + would/could + have + V3 (Mệnh đề chính).
– Ví dụ: If I hadn’t been sick last Sunday, I would have come to your birthday party. (Nếu tôi

không bị ốm vào chủ nhật tuần trước, tôi đã đến dự tiệc sinh nhật của bạn.)
6. Đảo ngữ câu điều kiện
– Đảo ngữ câu điều kiện là hình thức đảo ngược vị trí thơng thường của chủ ngữ và động từ
trong câu để nhấn mạnh một thành phần hay ý nào đó trong câu.
– Mỗi câu điều kiện sẽ tương ứng với một cấu trúc đảo ngữ.
a) Câu điều kiện loại 0
Should + S + V-inf, thì Hiện tại đơn.
– Ví dụ: If it rains, the plants get wet. (Nếu trời mưa, cây cối sẽ bị ướt.)
⟹ Should it rain, the plants get wet.
b) Câu điều kiện loại 1
Should + S + V-inf, S + will/shall/can/may + V-inf.

c) Câu điều kiện loại 2
Were + S + N/Adj/to V, S + would/could + V-inf
– Ví dụ: If I were you, I wouldn’t drink that smoothie.
(Nếu tôi là bạn, tơi sẽ khơng uống ly sinh tố đó đâu.)
⟹ Were I you, I wouldn’t drink that smoothie.
d) Câu điều kiện loại 3
Had + S + V3, S + would/could + have + V3
– Ví dụ: If Julie had run faster, she might have won.
(Nếu Julie chạy nhanh hơn, cô ấy có thể đã thắng.)
⟹ Had Julie run faster, she might have won.
e) Mẹo nhớ cách đảo ngữ câu điều kiện và lưu ý

– “If” sẽ được loại bỏ và thay thế bằng các trợ động từ khác, cụ thể:
+ Trong câu điều kiện loại 1: “If” → “Should”
+ Trong câu điều kiện loại 2: “If” → “Were”
+ Trong câu điều kiện loại 3: “If” → “Had”
– Lưu ý: Những cách đảo ngữ ở phần a, b, c, d là ở dạng khẳng định và đó là cách đảo ngữ của
động từ thường. Với động từ “to be” và ở dạng phủ định, ta chỉ cần sử dụng những kiến thức về
thì trong tiếng Anh để áp dụng.
7. Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp (Mixed conditional sentence)
– Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp là một dạng câu điều kiện đặc biệt, là sự kết hợp giữa các câu điều
kiện với nhau và được sử dụng trong những tình huống nhất định với những hoàn cảnh khác
nhau.
a) Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp loại 1: Điều kiện quá khứ, kết quả hiện tại (3-2)
– Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp loại 1 diễn tả giả thiết trái ngược trong quá khứ và kết quả trái ngược
với hiện tại.
– Giả thiết về một hành động, sự việc sẽ xảy ra ở hiện tại nếu điều kiện nói tới trong q khứ có
thật.
– Cơng thức:
Mệnh đề if (if-clause)
Mệnh đề chính (main clause)
If/Unless + thì QKHT
S + would + V-inf
Mệnh đề if của câu điều kiện loại 3 Mệnh đề chính của câu điều kiện loại 2
– Ví dụ:
+ If I had worked harder, then I would be rich now. (Nếu tơi làm việc chăm chỉ hơn, thì bây giờ
tơi đã giàu có.)

⟹ Ta thấy được sự việc “giàu có” ở hiện tại khơng có thật bởi hành động “làm việc chăm chỉ”
đã không xảy ra trong quá khứ.

b) Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp loại 2: Điều kiện hiện tại, kết quả quá khứ (2-3)
– Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp loại 2 dùng để diễn tả một sự việc không thể xảy ra được ở hiện tại và
một kết quả tưởng tượng khác hồn tồn với những gì xảy ra trong q khứ. (nhưng thực sự thì
khơng xảy ra).
– Giả thiết về một hành động, sự việc sẽ xảy ra trong quá khứ nếu điều kiện nói tới có thật.
– Cơng thức:
Mệnh đề if (if-clause)
Mệnh đề chính (main clause)
If/Unless + thì Q khứ đơn
S + would + V-inf
Mệnh đề if của câu điều kiện loại 2 Mệnh đề chính của câu điều kiện loại 3
– Ví dụ: If I were you, I would have bought that book.
(Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ mua quyển sách đó.)
⟹ Hành động “mua quyển sách đó” không xảy ra trong quá khứ do điều kiện “tôi là bạn” khơng
có thật.
