This British Standard is the UK implementation of EN 61242:1997+A2:2016,
incorporating corrigendum October 2010. It is identical to IEC 61242:1995
incorporating amendments 1:2008 and 2:2015. It supersedes BS EN
61242:1997+A1:2008, which will be withdrawn on 3 December 2018.
To clarify the requirements for protection against excessive temperatures, the
UK committee has proposed a modification to the text of the UK special national
condition applicable to subclause 12.11.1: The fuse fitted in the plug in the UK
system is not intended to provide protection to the cable reel in the reeled state.
A thermal cut-out, current cut-out or weak point should be incorporated within
the body of the cable reel.
The start and finish of text introduced or altered by amendment is indicated in
the text by tags. Tags indicating changes to IEC text carry the number of the
IEC amendment. For example text altered by IEC amendment is indicated in
the text by .
The CENELEC common modifications have been implemented at the
appropriate places in the text and are indicated by a side line in the margin.
The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee
PEL/23, Electrical accessories.
