This British Standard is the UK implementation of EN 61587-1:2017. It is
identical to IEC 61587-1:2016. It supersedes BS EN 61587-1:2012, which
is withdrawn.
The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical
Committee EPL/48, Electromechanical components and mechanical
structures for electronic equipment.
A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obtained on
request to its secretary.
This publication does not purport to include all the necessary provisions

4 Classification of environmental conditions

wi ll survive the n orm al h an d lin g du ri n g m an ufacture, storage, transportati on , instal l ati on an d

param eters are h ig her than param eters for th e overal l appl ication i tself. This sh ou l d ensure
proper workin g of a com pl ete u ni t i n an appl ication .

I t is th e objective of the cl im atic tests to ensure that cabin ets, racks, su bracks, chassis with

wh ich th ey wil l norm all y operate wi th ou t d egrad ati on or creatin g a h azard.

m em bers wi l l prevent d i sen gag em en t of th e pl u g-in u n its from th e gu id e rails, m isal ignm en t
with plu g-i n u ni t front panel al ignm en t pi ns an d pl ug -i n un i t front pan el reten tion d evices. The
rear hori zon tal m em bers m ay be braced by an appl ication specific com pon en t such as a
backpl an e, a backpanel or a d irect m oun ted fixed con n ector system warran tin g appl icati on
specific rear h ori zon tal m em bers. I t sh all be reported if th e su brack u n d er test is assem bled
wi th such a com pon en t. I f the su brack is an in tegral part of a ch assis the sam e subrack/plu gin un it i nterfaces are tested .

The subrack or th e ch assis wi th an i ntegrated su brack u n der test sh al l be m oun ted i n a rig id

shown in Fi gure 5 an d Fi gu re 6. Table 8 an d Tabl e 9 provid e d etai led l oad i nstructions. I t

hori zon tal m em bers or mou n ted to a backpl an e or fixed con nector bracket or pan el.

subrack structural assem bl y screws sh all be tightened to th e m an ufactu rers recomm end ed
torq ue val u es.
The chosen con n ector system (fixed and free) used for th e pu rpose of the test sh all be
reported . Th e d efined conn ector test con d iti ons shal l be observed.

7.2.2.2

Subrack or chassis with an integrated subrack – Rigid test fixture

Vibration an d shock tests sh all be perform ed on a su brack or a ch assis wi th i ntegrated
subrack assem bled wi th m ass load ed plug-i n un i ts accord i ng to th e I EC 60068 references as
shown i n Table 1 7 of th is stand ard. Th e test fixtu re sh all be m ou nted d irectl y to the vi brati on
table.
