Translation


The endocrine system is concerned mainly
with four major metabolic functions. First, it
helps to maintain the homeostasis of the
body by regulating such activities as the
concentration of minerals and electrolytes in
body fluids, the balance of enzymes, the
metabolism of proteins, lipids,… Second, the
secretions of the endocrine system work with
the nervous system to help the body react
properly to stress. Third, the endocrine
system is a major regulator of body growth
and development. Finally, it controls sexual
development and reproduction.

A hormone is a specialized chemical,
produced and secreted by an
endocrine cell or tissue. It circulates
throughout body fluids, and affects the
metabolic activity of a target cell or

tissue in a specific way.
