Basic Spoken Lao
for

Foreigners

Preface
Basic Spoken Lao for foreigners is designed for learners who are starting their
study of Lao from zero, and want to learn Lao fast and be able to communicate

with Lao people in basic daily life. The book mainly teaches speaking, it will
provide some introductory speaking which will eventually enable the learners
to know basic phonetic Lao and basic spoken Lao.
The book consists of 15 lessons and one lesson introduces Phonetics which is
intended for use in a course of 30 hours of classroom study. The vocabulary in
the whole

text is limited to the 500 frequently used words

in everyday

conversation.

To make it easy for learners to find the meaning of words, the Lao words are
listed in a special glossary and an English-Lao glossary is also included in the
last pages of the book.
I hope that learners will find this book useful as a beginning for their language
learning.
