Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a
successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after
graduating from high school. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is assumed that continuing to pursue higher education at university or college can
be the best way to ensure a successful career, whilst others claim that working
straight after high school is much better. This essay attempts to shed light on both
perspectives before concluding that I am in favor of the former notion.
On the one hand, joining the workforce straight after high school could be
advantageous to a certain extent. Firstly, young people are able to earn money as
soon as possible to cover basic living expenses, which could reduce the financial
burden on their family. This would help them become more mature and independent
because they do not have to depend on their relatives. Secondly, an individual who
gets a job instead of studying further is very likely to progress rapidly in their career
path. This is because they would have a chance to hone practical skills and obtain a
great deal of real experience to develop their profession more quickly.
On the other hand, there are a host of compelling reasons as to why I am convinced
that attending tertiary education could give youngsters great chances in their career
ladder. One reason is that university education would provide young people with
more specialized knowledge and qualifications, which is immensely necessary to
employers these days. University graduates could stand a greater chance of landing
a well-earned job rather than those without college education. Another reason is that
obtaining a degree could help young people get a top occupation in a competitive
labor market where many other applicants also chase the job with a high position.
For example, graduate engineers in the field of information technology are highly
paid but it is not straightforward to get the profession without being trained in
university or college.
In conclusion, while it is irrefutable that going to work right after high school has its
own advantages, I would contend that attending higher education gives young
people more great opportunities in their profession.
