CLASSIFICATION
1.Future wish
Ao ước ở tương lai

S + wish(es) + S + would + Vo
If only
+ S + would + Vo

I wish my test would be good next week.
If only my test would be good next week.

2. Present wish
Ao ước ở hiện tại

S + wish(es) + S + V (simple past)
If only
+ S + V (simple past)

I wish I had a lot of money (but I don’t have)
If only you were here (but you aren’t here)
S + wish(es) + S + V (past perfect)
If only
+ S + V (past perfect)

3. Past wish
Ao ước ở quá khứ

They wish they had passed the interview
yesterday. (but they didn’t pass)
If only he had won the prize last Sunday.


I live in the countryside. I wish I (live) in a modern city
I wish I lived in a modern city


Peter didn’t get the promotion in last term so he felt so sad. I wish
he (get) the promotion.

I wish he had got the promotion.


Peter didn’t get the promotion in last term so he felt so sad. I wish
he (get) the promotion in next term.

I wish he would get the promotion in next term.

It’s been raining all day. I will go on a trip tomorrow. I wish it (rain)
tomorrow.
I wish it wouldn’t rain tomorrow.
