1. Để diễn tả ao ước trong tình trạng hiện tại (Present situation) sau động từ WISH ta dùng:
Thí dụ: I don’t know Sue’s telephone number. I wish I knew it.
(Tôi không biết số điện thoại của Sue.Ước gì tôi biết được)
I wish I were taller.
(Ước gì tôi được cao hơn)
2. Để diễn tả ao ước trong tình trạng quá khứ (Past situation) sau động từ WISH ta dùng:

Thí dụ: I ate too much.I feel sick. I wish I hadn’t eaten too much.
(Tôi ăn quá nhiều.Bây giờ tôi bò bệnh.Ước gì lúc ấy tôi không ăn nhiều như thế)
3. Để diễn tả ao ước trong tình trạng tương lai (Future situation) sau động từ WISH ta dùng:
Thí dụ: The music next door is very loud. I wish they would turn it down.
(Tiếng nhạc của nhà bên cạnh mở quá lớn.Ước gì họ vặn nhỏ xuống)
