In recent years, the question “Should printed books be kept or not?” has become
a hot issue for the general public. Some people believe that with the
development of technology like e-books, old books should be replaced. Others
think that printed books are always necessary in human life. In my opinion, I
agree with the later idea.
First and foremost, people should recognize that not almost everyone has access
to the internet. In urban areas, people’s lives are still poor; it is so difficult for
them to buy a laptop or smart phone just to read the news every day. Instead,
printed media like books, newspapers, and magazines are still a perfect choice
for them. For example, in the COVID-19 pandemic, students had to take online
classes and use e-documents for all their studies, but they were not satisfied
with them. They argued that they wanted their schools to open as before the
pandemics because this learning makes it difficult for many others not to have
access to the internet.
On the other hand, there are some arguments in support of the idea that some
published books are important historical evidence for the country. For instance,
the first newpaper published in VietNam, poetry collections of famous writers
and poets, and chronicles of past dynasties They are displayed in famous
museums as a testament to our heroic history. If they are replaced by e-books,
their value will disappear.
To sum up, nowadays people can choose between e-books and traditional
books; it depends on the functions you need. Both books bring benefits in
different ways. However, I always believe that printed media will never
disappear because of the reasons mentioned above.
