Topic1: your opinion about learning foreign languages
There is no free lunch in the world except that you know at least 1 foreign language.
Language is the powerful tool to communicate people all around the world. How can we
express our excited feeling when seeing the football match between MU and Chelsea, how
can we show our ideas such as the agreement to support someone or even hatred to the
enemy, and love to our relatives. It is the role of language, and now we will discuss about
learning English- one of these foreign languages.
How many people speaking English every day? Only British! Nowadays, million of people
use it as the second language besides their mother tongue. Good at English- you have more
chances to get a good job with high salary. The directors always look for employees who
can speak English well and fluently because today we do business with many foreigners,
and you don’t want to be completely silent in front of them. Many international transaction
are based on English, so on with the technique documents, or international laws. If you are
a student and you have a dream to go abroad for learning, you need to reach Toefl
certificate- the exam to test your English. Here, you can see English’s influences to our
lives. I will tell you the miracle story of a country- Singapore. They had a high jump in
economic because of many intelligent policies. In Singapore, Chinese, malay, English are
commonly spoken. But some decades ago, they rarely spoke English in daily events, Ly
Quang Dieu, the president of Singapore, has the future vision to see English importance,
and he affords people to learn it. When thinking of Singapore today, he can proud of what
he has done. Singapore lesson teaches me that we can change our country, raise up our
living standard by learning English.
Generally speaking, we should learn English as soon as possible, but we are talking about
learning English, so what is the real state of learning English in VN. In my opinion, I think
it is rather good in the big city, but not good in the rural areas. Partly because of lacking of
money, so we can’t invest too much money in learning conditions, and the children must sit
in the dark room with leaky roof. Sad to say, it is the fact in many provinces. In these areas,
learning is not the main problem, they have many things to worry about like how to earn
money, not like how to raise their children. I had a chance to go to my home town in Tien
Lang – the outskirt of Hai Phong city, and see my mother’s high school. One thing I know
is that it’s more obsolete than schools in city, the children in countryside has nothing

comparable with their counterparts in city. Other thing we shouldn’t forget is the quality of
teachers in the countryside. Maybe the salary that our government pay for them is not
adequate to their ability, and the living standard in countryside is clearly very poor. So it’s
why many students don’t want to work in their home village, most of them try to survive in
the city full of competitions.
Don’t only complain of the situation or of the poor state we must suffer. We should be fair
with ourselves. Do you know that English average score of VN students is lower than
Thailand’s? Some students don’t want to study English any more! Because of what?
English maybe too hard for them to understand, really? The important reason here is that
they are too lazy, and others is too hesitate to speak English. Practice, practice and more
practice is the key tip for you to get the high score in English, and why we are hesitate. Do
not think too much about your voice or your position in English you are now. Be more
confident and brave to talk with your teacher or even the foreigners. Go ahead, nothing can
stop you.
Here are some opinions and experiences of me in learning English. There’s only one way
to change your life, to live the life you want. In this way, English play the important role
we can’t ignore. So impossible-it means I’m possible.
