I. INTRODUCTION

A. Rationale
1.

Internship site
Considered a launch pad to assist students in flying high and far away on the road to

professionalism in the fields of translation and interpreting, the Internship 2 course requires

seniors majoring in English Translation and Interpreting at Ho Chi Minh City University of
Education to seek internship sites. It is my firm conviction that Internship 2 is a golden
opportunity to give students an all-encompassing insight into professional work
environments while also enabling them to truly immerse themselves in those settings,
thereby sharpening their knowledge and skills in general. Hence, it is overriding to seek a
trustworthy internship site that is in line with one’s expectations. A dependable one is aslo
one of the paramount factors that significantly contribute to their performance throughout
the internship.
I made my decision to apply for an internship period at Phap Luat Sao Multimedia
Joint Stock Company from February 13th to April 9th, 2023. I have had the privilege to
try out translating several types of texts from Vietnamese to English throughout my eight
weeks of internship there, which has tremendously polished my translation skills,
enriched my knowledge, and opened up my horizons.
Since Mr. Nguyen Tan Hung Anh is the legal representative of Phap Luat Sao
Multimedia Joint Stock Company as well as Founder and CEO of

STECH VN

Technology & Engineering Joint Stock Company, and Phap Luat Sao is the
communication unit of STECH VN, it is my tremendous honor to be entrusted to do my
internship at both companies. I was specially assigned tasks relating to the product of
STECH VN, DAKshow - a new decentralized social networking platform. Hence, I would
like to share my observations, salutary experiences, and, overridingly, the invaluable
lessons I have learned at Phap Luat Sao and Stech VN in this report, which will bolster
my topic: “The versatility of translators in the technology field in light of the emergence
of Chat GPT”.
2. Topic selection
For students majoring in translation and interpretation at Ho Chi Minh City University
of Education, the field of technology is rather challenging since during their time at the
university, they have just undergone modules mostly pertaining to two fields: Tourism

and Journalism.

The field of translation and interpreting has been impacted to some extent by the
remarkable technological advancements of recent years, particularly the recent advent of
Chat GPT. Chat GPT is an intelligent chatbot created by OpenAI upon the InstructGPT
that can follow instructions in a prompt and provide a response in detail (Ouyang et al.,
2022, as cited in Jiao et al., 2023). Besides, due to the dialogue format, ChatGPT can
respond to follow-up inquiries, acknowledge mistakes, contest false premises, and reject
inappropriate requests (Jiao et al., 2023). Hence, Chat GPT has quite excellent translation
abilities.
In what ways do translators need to be versatile in combining Chat GPT with their
English proficiency and translation skills to facilitate translation work? This is the
rationale behind my topic selection.
B. About Phap Luat Sao Multimedia Joint Stock Company
1. Overview
Phap Luat Vietnam News is the official organ of the Ministry of Justice, with the
mission of informing local judicial authorities’ units about the activities of the Justice
Ministry and the judiciary branch to enhance the effectiveness of the leadership and
direction of the Minister of Justice.
On July 10, 1985, the first standard Phap Luat Vietnam News printed in lead was
published, which can be highly regarded as a special media event not only for the Ministry
of Justice but also for the entire Vietnam Revolutionary Press.
Sao Phap Luat, one of the twelve publications of Phap Luat Vietnam News, is a
specialized online newspaper first published in 2018. It provides young readers with
entertainment by covering a variety of entertainment-related events, media, and
international news.
Phap Luat Sao Multimedia Joint Stock Company is the exclusive proprietor of all the
content and commercial opportunities for specialized Sao Phap Luat News and Television

Legal Phap Luat Vietnam News. It has a staff of editors, technicians, and collaborators
ranging from 30 to 50 personnel. Over the years, the staff's expertise has positively made
an enormous mark on the activities of the journalism and media industries.
The articles on Phap Luat Sao website are also incrementally inventive and up-to-date
with new legal communication standards. The specialized website has up to 15 categories,
each of which provides an in-depth analysis of one or more aspects of social life.

In 2021, STECH Technology & Engineering Joint Stock Company was founded with
the objective of pioneering the application of new technologies in Vietnam's Digital
Revolution.

2. About DAKshow
DAKshow is the technological product of STECH. To be more specific, it is a cuttingedge social media platform integrating the six current social networks: Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, TikTok, and Twitch, to compile and provide the most up-todate and trustworthy news while enabling users to earn money via their activities. To
immerse themselves in community activities and use DAKshow, the blockchain
application does not require users to have any prior knowledge of blockchain technology.
II. DESCRIPTION OF INTERNSHIP

As mentioned in the previous part, I simultaneously did my internship at Phap Luat
Sao and Stech VN. My internship lasted two months, from February 13th to April 9th ,
2023. My office hours at the company are from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30

The table above manifests that my internship was split into three sections: translating,
editing, and content writing. Most of the tasks I was assigned were primarily pertaining
to translation, my major at university, from Vietnamese to English. The remaining ones
included editing and content writing, which required me to make use of my English
proficiency.
During the first few days of my internship, Mr. Phuc Tien informed and elucidated to
me in great detail about the companies that I should keep in mind. Thanks to his
enthusiasm, I have gained a deeper insight into the firms' products, which serves as a
stepping stone for me to facilitate my work. I started getting assignments to translate and
edit documents, as well as take training sessions on content marketing, in the following
days.
Prior to being officially published into the market, those documents that I translated
must first be reviewed and proofread by Mr. Phuc Tien before being delivered to Ms. Le
Ngo Nguyen Anh, COO of STECH VN and editor of Phap Luat Sao, for final approval.
When it comes to editing, my main responsibility was to go over and proofread the
work that the interns from previous semesters accomplished. To be more precise, I must
identify and fix writing errors before giving them to Ms. Nguyen Anh for her final
approval.
In addition to the time allotted for the aforementioned tasks, Ms. Nguyen Anh
equipped me with knowledge of content marketing-related skills, including writing social
posts for the company’s media channels and articles for STECH’s websites. I also had

the chance to see firsthand how top managers go about their daily tasks and resolve any
issues that might have come up.
Every task will be scheduled specifically and finished prior to its due date, and I need
to keep extreme concentration to reduce mistakes that were made during the working
process.
A. Translating
In the first week of my internship, I was assigned to translate a white paper from
Vietnamese to English, which is an informational document issued by STECH
highlighting specific characteristics of DAKshow that will soon be available for investors
and users once it is officially released. Mr. Tien recommended that I should commence
translating until I came across any specialized words that I was not familiar with, at which
point I should consult him or look them up on Google Search or Chat GPT rather than
being given all of the terminologies associated with blockchain technology before doing
so, which tremendously aided me in memorizing them. With some terminologies for
which I needed simple explanations to understand, I utilized Chat GPT for convenience
rather than Google. However, I had to ask Mr. Tien for clarification on a few complex
terms I came across while translating since it requires in-depth knowledge related to
Socialfi and blockchain technology.
The following weeks, I was tasked with translating videos and questions and answers
(Vie- Eng) pertaining to user guidelines, which will be posted in the DAKshow Help
Center and accessible to the public on the DAK system and media channels. Since those
texts require common grammar and vocabulary, there are no issues that I run into while
translating. I was also given the task of translating articles that will be published on the
official website of STECH VN. However, it is not a typical article but rather a hybrid of
the content of a landing page and an article, requiring translators to neutralize the
journalistic and informal writing styles in order to speak to readers in an approachable
manner. I also translated some other kinds of documents, as illustrated in the table above.

I've occasionally tried using Chat GPT to translate lengthy texts and discovered that
the translation is much better in terms of grammar and vocabulary than Google Translate,
but there are still limitations in certain contexts.
After translating documents, including terminologies, I utilized a CAT Tool called
SDL Trados Studio that I was introduced to by Mr. Bui Duc Tien in the Techs in
Translating and Interpreting modules and saved all of them in its memory. As a result,

translation speed dramatically increased in the period that followed. Due to the fact that
each document has various goals and characteristics, I must be adaptable and versatile in
my use of writing style, vocabulary, and grammar.

B. Editing
Those documents, which I was in charge of editing, are the upcoming articles on the
company's website. It is my responsibility to meticulously go over those translations and
rectify all writing errors. Since I had a strong grasp of grammar and a wide range of

vocabulary thanks to modules I had enrolled in the previous semesters, I had no trouble
at all taking on these tasks.
C. Content Marketing
I have never had the opportunity to try out my competence in this field. Ms. Nguyen
Anh, COO of SETCH VN, has devoted a lot of effort to training me in SEO skills so I
would be able to write marketing-related content. In addition, I read research papers

related to this field in my spare time and consult specialized books such as “Content
Marketing for Dummies” or "Epic Content Marketing” to enrich my knowledge. After
that, I was given the task of writing social media posts in English based on the Vietnamese
blueprint. I was eventually able to write social media posts on my own after becoming
accustomed to the writing process. I sought out Chat GPTs' assistance to get creative ideas
for social media posts. After receiving the suggestions from Chat GPT, I go on to select
the one with which I am most satisfied and elaborate upon it to create a complete post.
But I am always aware that using Chat GPT excessively could make me rely on it and
impair my creativity and my capacity to critically think.
III. ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION
A. Analysis
I can still vividly recall how unfamiliar and novel everything was to me on my first
day at Phap Luat Sao and Stech VN. I felt pretty overawed since Stech is a technological
corporation, and those who are around me exceptionally excel in the field of information
technology. Besides, when I was in university, I was exposed to two primary fields of
translation: Tourism and Journalism. I, therefore, felt that the source text related to
technology was a little tedious and challenging. During the company's first day of
internship, I admitted to thinking, "Should I seek another place for an internship?"
However, thanks to the enthusiastic support of highly skilled professionals in the
technology sector, Chat GPT, and CAT Tool, I quickly assimilated and gradually grew
accustomed to the office work environment, becoming increasingly familiar with
technical terms related to blockchain technology and decentralized finance. Along with
honing my translation aptitudes, I also significantly strengthened my soft skills, such as
time management and teamwork.
In light of being the only translation intern at Phap Luat Sao, I always endeavor to
convey a visualization of a Ho Chi Minh City University of Education student, who is

enthusiastic, inventive, diligent, and always moving forward in their work. My

translations, after being gone over and approved by the Board of Directors, underwent
minimal editing. Hence, I am self-assured that I have successfully fulfilled my role.
There is a funny memory that will be etched in my memory forever. It is the first day,
when I am entrusted to translate content for landing pages with source text as follows:
“SocialFi là sự kết hợp giữa mạng xã hội và Tài chính, nó hướng đến phi tập trung, tính
mở và khả năng trao quyền cho người dùng”. Because of misconstruing the source text,
I translated “tính mở” into “openness”. But after coming across this word several times,
I started delving into it and consulting my instructor for assistance. He gave me a bottomup explanation that “tính mở” means “scalability” in this context. The discrepancy
between “openness” and “scalability” is that while the former is highly considered as a
principle that enables fog nodes to address business needs, the latter is another crucial
component for system implementation to adapt workload, system cost, performance, and
business needs (Tran et al., 2020b). To put it simply, according to Chat GPT:
“Scalability refers to the ability of a system or technology to handle increased
demands as usage or data volume grows…openness, on the other hand, refers to
the ability of a system or technology to integrate with other systems or allow for
customization by users…While scalability and openness are not mutually
exclusive, it's important to consider which is a higher priority for your specific
needs.”
Even though I was aware that this was a humorous experience, it taught me a valuable
lesson and aided me in progressively internalizing the saying of a famous Vietnamese
writer, Nam Cao: "Sự cẩu thả trong bất kỳ nghề gì cũng là một sự bất lương."
B. Evaluation
The gorgeous time at Phap Luat Sao and STECH VN has left me with many invaluable
lessons, serving as precious belongings on my way to becoming a professional translator:
First, I became aware of the significant discrepancy between theory and practice:
In the course Theories of Translation and Interpreting, I have learned a lot of translation
methods and techniques. However, this makes me feel rather stereotypical since it was a
little challenging for me to put this knowledge into practice during my internship at the
company. According to Newmark (1988), a skilled translator must have a “sixth sense”,
which is made up of knowledge, sensitivity, and intelligence in addition to intuition,

frequently comes into play (joue) during a final revision. He also states that this sixth
sense guides us on when to translate literally or distinctively, and when to defy all
accepted translation conventions. Hence, I think that we must be versatile while not being
too rigid to put what we have learnt into practice and sometimes, we have to “defy all
accepted translation conventions”.
That being said, I truly value the practical knowledge I have acquired through the
translation and interpretation modules at university and feel grateful for having
opportunities to sagaciously utilize them in my translation work.
Second, Chat GPT is a useful tool for translators, but I should be cognizant of its
limitations and not misuse it:
As I have demonstrated in the previous section, Chat GPT has partly aided in my
ability to comprehend technical terminology and translate more swiftly and efficiently.
However, I should mind my steps because Chat GPT has some drawbacks, including the
possibility of bias, a lack of emotional intelligence, and a constrained knowledge base
(Kalla and Smith, 2023). This is quite dangerous for translators since I learned from Ms.
Bui Thi Phuong Thao, M.A. in the "Theories of Translation and Interpreting" modules,
impartiality, which includes “unbiased”, is one of the five overriding codes of ethics that
a translator is required to have.
Third, the profession of translation and interpretation necessitates a high level of
professional expertise as well as the translator's careful attention to detail:
I still recall the saying that Mr. Phuc Tien, my instructor once shared with me: “If you
think a good translation is expensive, you should look at the cost of a poor translation”.
Negligence on the part of the translators can stem from the misuse of tools such as Chat
GPT, Google Translate, and so on, from a lack of awareness and assertiveness on their
part in verifying the suggestions made by these tools, or from a lack of technical expertise.
Jiao et al. (2023) found that Chat GPT performs on par with commercial translation
products (like Google Translate) in high-resource European languages but lags behind

significantly in low-resource or distant languages. As a result, we should be aware of the
pros and cons of Chat GPT and make optimal utilization of them.
Last but not least, we should never limit our potential and proactively seek out
employment opportunities for ourselves:
Just because our major is English Translation and Interpreting doesn’t mean we limit
ourselves by merely looking for jobs related to translation and interpreting. We need to
be versatile and know how to utilize concurrently our English proficiency and translation

expertise to try our hand at other different fields so that we can together eliminate the
stereotype that those who specialize in English translation and interpreting simply plug
their faces into computers and translate what is given to them. Additionally, Chat GPT is
a useful tool for content writers to hone their writing abilities for content marketing.

A. Conclusion
1. About my topic
In conclusion, based on what I have mentioned so far, it is my firm conviction that a
good translator is one who possesses English proficiency, outstanding translating skills,
the versatility and prudence when utilizing computer-aided translation tools or machine
translation. Even though GPT chat is incredibly invaluable, there are still a lot of
drawbacks that we must take into consideration. I even more firmly believe what Arle
Lommel, a renowned expert in the fields of localization and translation, once stated:
"Machine translation will [replace] only those humans who translate like machines."
2. About my major
As far as I am concerned, the English Translation and Interpreting major at Ho Chi
Minh City University of Education provides me with relatively high-quality training.
During our time in training at the university, students like me had undergone many
invaluable courses: Translating and Interpreting modules, in-depth linguistic modules
such as Linguistics 1-2, Contrastive Analysis, and courses that go in-depth on four skills,

such as Reading and Writing (1-5), Listening and Speaking (1-5). They all serve as a solid
foundation, assisting us in gaining in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of translation
and interpretation in particular and English proficiency in general. Additionally, elective
courses in soft skills such as Skills For Time Management And Problem-Solving aid
students in developing the competencies needed to excel in a real-world setting. Therefore,
I am self-assured that that knowledge and skills will be entirely sufficient for me to
demonstrate my abilities and successfully carry out my duties during my internship.
During my time at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, the courses that I find
most invaluable are Scientific Research Methods, Discourse Analysis, and Contrastive
Analysis, which have given me the knowledge and analytical skills needed to read and
comprehend scientific articles. They are a rich reservoir of knowledge that we should
delve into.

I think that the practical knowledge of the interpreter is the skill I am lacking. Some
interpreting classes had switched to the online format as a result of the Covid-19
pandemic outbreak over the years, which limits students' exposure to

working

interpreting environments.
3. Recommendation
1. Recommendation for English Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of
Education
I do think there is room for improvement in the caliber of the English Translation and
Interpreting major at our university. My humble suggestion is that the university should
increase the number of translation and interpretation courses it offers to cover fields other
than journalism and tourism to assist students in gaining expertise in more fields.
Additionally, I believe the English department should host more career orientation

workshops for students majoring in English translation and interpreting since I am
cognizant of the status quo that they have the propensity to switch to teaching after
graduating because they are unable to seek career opportunities in the translation and
interpreting fields. From my perspective, this is partly since jobs in the fields of
translation and interpretation are not only scarce by nature but also require a high level of
expertise.
2. Recommendation for Phap Luat Sao and Stech VN
The field of technology is comparatively challenging. I discovered that the previous
interns' translations weren't outstanding since they didn't really understand how they
could utilize the support of technology in translation, such as CAT Tools ( Trados,
Matecat), and AI chatbots - GPT. To speed up translation and boost the efficiency of
work, I propose that the company should build a translation memory on these tools. I do
believe that with the massive support of technology and the versatility and acumen of a
translator, we can produce translations that are just as exceptional as we had anticipated.

DAKShow là gì?
DAKShow là một nền tảng mạng xã hội tích hợp, dễ hiểu hơn thì đây là một cơng cụ
tổng hợp nội dung từ các mạng xã hội phổ biến, luôn được cập nhật theo xu hướng thịnh
hành nhất cùng những thơng tin mới trong ngày. Ngồi ra, DAKShow cịn cho phép người
dùng có thể tối ưu hóa việc chọn lựa thơng tin thơng qua các nhóm liên quan chủ đề yêu
thích và chắt lọc nội dung được cập nhật theo xu hướng dưới sự hướng dẫn của các group

leader.
Đặc biệt hơn nữa, DAK chính là cơng cụ giúp cho người dùng có thể "ký gửi" tiền
điện tử để kiếm thêm thu nhập. Một công cụ mà cho đến thời điểm hiện tại vẫn chưa có
nền tảng xã hội nào tiên phong áp dụng. Thử tưởng tượng xem nếu bạn có một mạng xã
hội vừa có thể xem được cùng một lúc tất cả các nội dung của các nền tảng mà khơng cần
phải thốt ra mở lại, vừa có thể kiếm tiền thơng qua các tương tác thơng thường (như
share, like, comment, vote, donate,...) vô cùng tiện dụng.
DAKShow cung cấp cho người dùng những gì?
Khác với những nền tảng mạng xã hội khác, DAKShow mang đến cho người dùng
những trải nghiệm mới trong nền tảng Web3:
DAKShow là một SocialFi: Có thể hiểu SocialFi là sự kết hợp giữa mạng xã hội
(Social Networking) và Tài chính (Finance), nó hướng đến phi tập trung, tính mở và khả
năng trao quyền cho người dùng. Vì vậy DAKShow ngồi việc là một “cầu nối” giữa các
mạng xã hội hiện hành khi cho phép người dùng chia sẻ và tương tác một cách tự do, nó
cịn cho phép tất cả người dùng tham gia vào mạng lưới giải trí cũng như tính kinh tế
trong đây, và cịn vơ số những chức năng hấp dẫn khi họ phải trực tiếp trải nghiệm.
Tính kết nối giữa nhà quảng cáo đến thị trường. DAKShow sử dụng cơ chế DIMA
(Decentralized Influencer Marketing) - một giải pháp chiến lược tiếp cận thị trường giúp
các doanh nghiệp vừa và nhỏ (SMe) thông qua kênh phân phối nội dung sản phẩm, dịch
vụ do Influencers xây dựng để truyền tải thông điệp thương hiệu đến với khách hàng.
DIMA là ứng dụng kết hợp giữa AI và Big Data với sẽ kết nối các nhà quảng cáo đến với
các nhà sáng tạo nội dung và nền tảng phi tập trung khác. Từ đó mà cơ chế DIMA ứng
dụng cho DAKShow sẽ mang đến nhiều giá trị hơn cho thị trường nói chung.
Ứng dụng NFT: Sau sự bùng nổ và phát triển của cơng nghệ blockchain, nhiều ứng
dụng mới vì thế cũng được ra đời, và NFT là một trong số các khái niệm đó. NFT được
hiểu như một loại tài sản kỹ thuật số không thể thay thế, được ứng dụng từ công nghệ

blockchain như một loại chuỗi mã độc nhất và ứng với một loại sản phẩm không thể thay

thế (như tranh, ảnh, âm nhạc, vật phẩm trong GameFi,...) của các nhà sáng tạo. Tại
DAKShow, các sản phẩm này được đóng gói thành NFT và phân mảnh, các phân mảnh
đó sẽ được biểu thị bằng DAK Token và sử dụng như một loại tiền tệ kỹ thuật số.

tác thông thường như chia sẻ link mạng xã hội, like, comment,... người dùng DAKShow
sẽ được trả thưởng bằng số lượng point tương ứng. Với DAK Points, bạn có thể quy đổi
